Nightmares: waking up screaming and crying

I've been working in the veterinary field for the past 2 years and for the past year I've been having horrible nightmares about my pets dying. It's always a different story and sometimes it's just one of my pets (I have 4; 2 dogs and 2 cats). I love animals so much and I'm just at the point that sometimes I wake up crying from these nightmares that I can't even go back to sleep. The most recent nightmare was that I was on a train that got derailed, I lived but when I woke up and looked around at all the damage my two cats were dead and one of my dogs was dead. It was terrifying. I woke up screaming and crying at the same time, I could not fall back asleep. All of my animals are young, cats are both 1 year old and one dog is 3 and the other is 5. I am just curious if anyone else has had something like this and if anyone knows what this might mean? I have never thought much about dreams cause when I woke up I only remembered bits and pieces of them, but now its like I can recall a full dream and it seems so real its scary.

Oh yeah, dem pet dreams. I have pets that I love dearly. I often think what will happen to them if something happens in my apartment when I'm not home, or any natural disaster. Or I see stupid crap on the internet that "humans" do to "animals" and that makes me feel like crap. This often gives me dreams in which my pets are lost or in peril and I wonder why in the world I got them in this situation. On top of that, you in your profession see animals suffer on daily bases. I'm sure your dreams are just a reflection of your fears and feelings, just as they are reflection of mine. Since that's what most of dreams are. Just a reiteration of our feelings, thoughts, fears, hopes, possible scenarios, things we see or hear during day on TV or at work .... Anyway, enjoy your pets, and thank you for helping other pets to get better. Happy dreams

Hello! You should use it as a mantra to get lucid. You should usually repeat ''If I see any of my pets dying, I'm dreaming'', say it before you sleep. If you realize its just a dream, you'll be able to save them? Revive them? It's up to you, good luck. I feel bad for you waking up that way, it's terrible. See you
