      Hair Falling Out?

So I've been having dreams of my hair falling out lately. I don't really know why, but it's become a recurrent dream over the past few months. Usually most of my hair is fine, but I'll be holding this large chunk of hair in my hands from an area where it fell out.

I was just curious if anyone else has experienced such dreams. I know people often dream of teeth falling out, and I thought this sounded a bit similar, but I've never heard of it being common.

Anyone have any idea what it could mean? I'm not one for dream interpretation, but usually if there's a pattern it means something's going on that my brain is trying to tell me.

Also, I didn't know which forum was best to post this in, as it's not strictly about dream interpretation but contains elements of that, and it's also about a recurrent dream. Sorry if I chose wrong.

You could be preoccupied with your appearance, you could be feeling that you do not have the power to succeed in an undertaking, or you could be feeling weak and vulnerable in general.

Yeah, I can see that. Probably not my appearance as much, I rarely give a care anymore. But that could certainly have something to do with it. Thanks

Although in order to provide a more accurate interpretation it would usually be best to have some further general background information about you (and a description of events just before the dreams began occurring), an additional approach to its meaning could be linked to how you’re handling lucid dreams etc. overall.

For example, in general terms, the image of hair in dreams often symbolizes the free flow of thoughts and fantasies etc., based on the analogy that the hair is found on the “head” where of course the brain is located and where mental activity occurs.

Also, the fact is that we can’t control the growth of our hair; it just keeps growing, similar to involuntary dreams, fantasies and intuitions etc.

Such products of the psyche can be our great strength as seen in the traditional stories of Samson and other heroes and heroines (who have long hair) as long as we don’t “cut off” these helpful feelings and intuitions etc., e.g. by cutting off our “hair”.

That’s because these dreams, personal intuitions and fantasies etc. can provide inspiration for new projects and undertakings which can advance our lives in a positive way, but they can also warn us if things are heading in the wrong direction.

So unfortunately, in your recurring dreams, apparently “something’s wrong” with this process of watching and dealing with psychic contents (your hair is falling out).

Maybe you’re tending to overdo the looking at dreams etc. so that a kind of imbalance might be forming.

On analogy, just as imbalances related to nutrition etc. in our bodies can cause physical conditions, so too perhaps this is happening psychologically to some extent and as you mentioned, this pattern in your dreams could be trying to point this out.

Anyway as mentioned, without knowing anything much about you, this way of looking at your recurring dream might not fit your personal circumstances very well, but I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.

Please feel free to ask any questions or to make any comments about this particular way of looking at your recurring dream.

Hmm, well I don't know what I could say without spilling my whole life story.

I'm definitely not overdoing looking at dreams. I almost never try to get lucid anymore, it happens spontaneously (best thing ever in my opinion), and I don't dream journal.

I'm certainly not at a good place in life. I've felt very disconnected from my intuition for quite awhile. I have been being very introspective, trying to understand who I am, and trying to figure out how to make my life better.

On analogy, just as imbalances related to nutrition etc. in our bodies can cause physical conditions, so too perhaps this is happening psychologically to some extent and as you mentioned, this pattern in your dreams could be trying to point this out.
I'd say this probably nails it. I'm just not in the greatest place psychologically.

Thanks for the assistance, and if there's any questions I can answer that would help, please feel free to ask.

Maybe the basic clue to the meaning of your recurring dream lies in your statement “I've felt very disconnected from my intuition for quite a while. I have been being very introspective”.

For example, being cut off from your intuition might be symbolized by the clumps of hair falling out.

An “imbalance” could be that possibly you’re overdoing being “introspective” too much.

The idea is that maybe you’re trying too hard to figure out some very basic questions in your life and ironically, this approach is possibly getting in the way of discovering some helpful ideas.

A very similar situation was experienced by the famous psychiatrist Carl Jung.

Basically, he had been a close collaborator with Freud for almost 10 years but he wrote a book that contradicted Freud’s ideas. This was a big no-no, and he was dumped on by Freud and the psychological community in general.

In this atmosphere, he had to resign important teaching posts etc. and found himself isolated and “disgraced” in his late 30’s when his career should have been expanding even further.

He too searched for ways to get out of this devastating situation but couldn’t make any headway.

After a lot of resistance and disbelief, he finally listened to a persistent intuition that seemed to be saying that he should just “play” in order to find an answer.

For a man of his intellectual capacities, this felt humiliating and unreal, but every day during the lunch break from his private practice, he went down to the beach of his house which was on the shore of a lake.

There, he chose various stones from the beach and gradually built up a little village, just like a child would do in play.

Over time, he realized that letting his mind go in this way released all sorts of helpful ideas and intuitions.

So maybe you could find some similar “play” activity which could fulfil a similar role in freeing up valuable insights and approaches to your personal situation.

Anyway, I hope these additional ideas can be helpful. If you have any further questions or comments, please let me know.

Hmm, well that all makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to help me

As for trying to get my mind off something, that's easier said than done. Maybe I'll find a way one day.
