      Recurring: rusty old shipyard??

I keep having this recurring dream, where I'm in this strange place that I have never seen in real life.

It's below a cliff side. The cliff itself has old, rotting wooden ramps leading up. There is a rotting, old, dock leading from the cliffs. There are giant, rusting, old ships all along this dock. And everytime I have this dream, everything is extremely detailed, like those things you tie boats to on the docks are there, old saggy ropes, seewead, fishnets, etc. Usually an old, rusty crane as well lifting up some crates. I seem to remember giant anchors under the water.

Whats strange is that sometimes it just appears, then I go to a normal dream. I mean, I'll be in this one for about 10 seconds, then skip to a normal one. I have no idea where this could be coming from.

Please respond as immediately as possible:

      Are you on any medication?
      How old are you?
Is there a history of family illness in your blood line?
Has there ever been any incidents of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder?

I worry that this dream and the shifting may be the result of a histrionic disorder. I can be wrong depending on your answers to these:

Do you ever have feelings of doubt?
Does life feel overwhelming at times?
      Do you feel stressed?
      Are you happy?

In my experience, this imagery and shifting is symbolic of severe depression or anxiety. So I am worried that this might be evident with you.

I look forward to your response.

No meds, I'm 16. No family illness really, except a few incidents of Cancer. Also, no incidents of Schizophrenia, and as far as I know, none of bipolar disorder.

I have feelings of doubt as much as the next person .. I dunno what you mean. There, that's a feeling of doubt.

I'd say I'm a pretty happy guy, and I don't have much stress. If I have stress, it's my own fault. Life doesn't seem overwhelming, I like to keep things in perspective.

I looked up the Histrionic Disorder on wikipedia. I see it's usually people that have to be the center of attention. I'm honestly not like that, I like watching from the side and laughing when I'm with friends. Also, I'm most definately not shallow... I won't go further into that, though.

I guess some of these symptoms could be evident since I can't, for lack of a better word, "get" a girlfriend. And as I said, I'm not shallow...

Also, what do you mean "shifting"?

EDIT: Do you mean depression because the scene is depressing? It isn't. It's calming and the ships are pretty awe-inspiring (when I'm in the dream).

Ohhhh, okay, I was really worried for a moment; it did not sound to joyous, honestly, lol.

In this case, let us take a different approach:

Does the scene remind you of any real life scenarios?
Are you reminded of any specific person?
Do you have any vivid memories being at a similar location?

I speculate that this may be a representation of a lost experience that you really wish you could re-visit. I am not sure and my previous interpretation was way off, so I await your response before continuing.

The problem is that I don't know anywhere that I could've experienced this before... I asked my mom if we went to a shipyard in Tunisia when I was little, but she says no. Maybe its from a movie I saw when I was little or something...

Do you want to go to a place like this?

Tunisia? Correct me if my geography is wrong, but is that not in Africa? Where do you live (generally)?

Heh, I live in Canada, but I lived in Switzerland for 2 years when I was younger and we went to Tunisia for vacation. I don't really want to go to this place... And its not like I'm interested in boats or something anyways.

Actually, it might just be that I'm scared of the ocean, since it's so damn big and dark. Well, not scared really. Just... respectful I guess.

Like last year, I went to Cuba and took this Cayman boat tour, and there was this old rusty oil-rig that was abandoned for a while. I just love things like that. But I've had this dream long before Cuba.

Do you feel you could easily ride a boat?

      Do you like swimming?

What about this scenario makes it seem peaceful?

Are there any parts that seem hostile?

Do you feel that you are getting what you want out of life in general?

Boats: I wouldn't go out on the ocean with a little fishing boat, and probably not at all if there are big waves... Otherwhise, yeah.

Swimming: I like being in the water, but swimming is not a strong point of mine. But if I'm at a beach, I'll be in the water, not sitting in the sand.

The scenario seems peaceful because there are no people there as far as I can tell. And it looks normally busy, but during the dream, there's nothing going on.

Hostile: Nothing that I can tell. Maybe just how big the ships are.. they're huge.

And I think I'm getting about 75% of what I want from life out of it.

Do you have a fear of drowning? Does it concern you?

How do you feel about roller-coasters?

Swimming: I like being in the water, but swimming is not a strong point of mine. But if I'm at a beach, I'll be in the water, not sitting in the sand.
Why is it not a strong point of yours?

The scenario seems peaceful because there are no people there as far as I can tell. And it looks normally busy, but during the dream, there's nothing going on.
Do you feel this is similar in your waking life?

Are you in a relationship or wish to be in one?

Hostile: Nothing that I can tell. Maybe just how big the ships are.. they're huge.

And I think I'm getting about 75% of what I want from life out of it.
What could fill the remaining percentage? Do you feel it is necessary to fill it?

Well, I certainly wouldn't like drowning. And I guess thats why I don't want to be on a little fisherboat in the ocean. However, if I'm on a ship or so, I'd be good. Roller-coasters... Eh, I can go on them. I don't really like the ones that go upside down, or where you're in a small capsule rotating (never been on that).

Swimming isn't a strong point because I don't really practice it.

Usually in waking life, I'm with people during school and usually I'm not alone at home.

I am not in a relationship, but I would like to be in one. I guess that could help fill the remaining percentage... Sometimes it feels necessary, other times I don't care much.

      Do you have any siblings?

How is your relationship with your parents?

Is there any part of life you wish you had more control or choices over?

No sibs, good relationship with my parents.

A part of my life I wish I had more control over? I'm not really sure, so I guess nothing then.

I am finding this difficult to interpret, honestly.

I think this may be a feeling of your desire to simply be on your own or be left alone. Perhaps you simply like meditating and being alone in a scenario that you typically fear might bring you closer to understanding yourself better. You are likely aware of this and want to investigate why and why you feel certain ways.

Of course, the best place to understand yourself is your thoughts. The best place to do that is alone (which your dream may represent) or through your dreams (which could be why you are here in the first place).

There is a lot more to it, obviously. What do you think..? Am I understanding you correctly?

Eh, maybe it doesn't mean anything. But yeah, your first paragraph is pretty accurate about me, except that I've never tried meditating.

And all this dream-meaning stuff is basically what introduced me to Lucid Dreaming, which led to me finding these forums here.

Even Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

But really, you took the time to reach out with this dream, so I speculate it does have some meaning. Do you have any speculations?

      Would you try meditating?

I think it might just be that I'm in awe of how big the ocean is, and how unexplored it is. I mean, I go on google earth and look at the cuban beaches, then I scroll out into the black ocean and get psyched.

I'm not even really sure what meditation is... Maybe I'll check it out.

It is rather amazing. I suppose I am trying to delve too far into wondering why it fascinates you,

Meditation can simply be sitting there, relaxing, and thinking about life. It requires no real skill or ideal method, just relax, control your breathing, and act naturally. Any method is simply a guide to what would naturally come to you - I think any Buddhist would agree with me on that one. (Unless you are wanting to become 'one' with everything.. which is a slightly different ideal..)

I like thinking about life. I usually do it listening to music, or trying to fall asleep (and then failing at falling asleep ).

Thanks for the interpreting the dream
