Unhappy Choking, not once but twice?

Twice within the past three weeks or so, my dreams ended with me choking and it's pretty scary.

The first occurred around three in the morning. I looked at the clock and it said 3:06 when I finally fell asleep. In my dream, I was in the backseat of my car, frantically trying to lock the doors. I think it was a parking lot of sorts, because other cars were around, but no people. It was nighttime, but I don't know what I was afraid of. Then I heard whispering, a man, saying his name was Manny, to not forget that and I would be fine, that I needed to trust him. For some reason then, I was unlocking the door and stepping out of the car, and as I was closing it, I saw a dark shadowy figure with no discernable features in the window's reflection. I was instantly terrified, and I tried to wake myself up because I knew on some level that it was a dream, only I couldn't at first. I fell to the ground and felt the figure moving in closer, and I just knew that he was coming for me and that I was in trouble. I woke up, feeling like I was choking, and I looked around my room, expecting to see someone there for some reason, but I didn't.

The second time, I was having a regular dream in which I was some sort of modern girl version of King Arthur and I was kicking serious butt with my sword. It was a bizarre dream, not exactly pleasant, but I was enjoying it and think I had some control over it.

Then all of a sudden, I felt as though people (almost child-like in size) were piling on top of me...wrapping their legs around my neck, choking and smothering me. I couldn't see their faces or anything, and I began to get really panicked when they didn't listen to my pleas to get off of me. At first I thought it was people playing around, but they ignored me and the hold around my neck grew tighter and tighter until I couldn't talk. The sense of alarm was very intense. It was even more urgent than it was in the first nightmare.

I felt like I was dying.

I woke up, then, and was really weirded out because again, this was the second time I woke up feeling like I was choking to death in such a short period of time, and to my recollection, I've never had that happen in a dream before. And the...atmosphere or setting of the dream changed dramatically from the rest of what I was dreaming--it didn't fit at all.

So I guess...any thoughts would be more than welcome.

Were you on your back? Possible sleep apnea?
