Well, I'm no expert, but my sister has PTSD, and it's bad news. On the plus side, I will personally guarantee that you are NOT going to die this week. I'll even go one further and say something decidedly good will almost certainly happen to you instead.

Y'now what? Make that seven good things. You can always find at least one good thing every day!

Dreams are just that: dreams. Don't fret over something a dream character says in a dream; if you think about it, it's not much more than you talking to yourself, in a kind of abstract way. I once had a DC tell me they were going to kill me horribly, by torture, if I didn't admit to pilfering their cat's cream. Or something like that, it's a bit fuzzy. I was James Bond at the time, and promptly busted out of the bucket I was bound in, and took control of the situation. That was...oh, a few hours ago.

Dreams can be awesome. Don't let 'em get you down!

      And here's another, on me:

I'd imagine it would depend on the particular stress personally but you don't wanna think that way anyway.

Try looking up the tutorials for dream control around the forum - try to relax before you fall asleep. What I do is remind myself I'm in bed so hopefulyl my subconscious mind will realise when I'm dreaming so i can take a bit of control over the dream.

No need to worry, I assure you.

We all have that sort of dream every now and then, at least once in our lives. It can be a tad unsettling, but ultimately, it's just a dream. As I understand it PTSD affects different individuals considerably differently, but my sister tends to have nightmares quite a bit. Lucid dreaming is the best solution for nightmares. Perhaps one of the few that work, and permanently. Since I had my first lucid dream, I've had all of one nightmare. There were a few dreams that could have been nightmares, if I'd let them, but even without gaining lucidity, they just didn't affect me the same.

As Balestar said, remind yourself when you go to bed that you are indeed in bed, and will be dreaming. Remember that nothing in your dreams can harm you. Nothing in your dreams can scare you, either, unless you let it. Once you know that you have the power to control your dreams, what power can they possibly have over you, except to make you happy and excited when you have a really cool one?

PM me if you ever just want to talk, or have any questions.

      ^What he said.

Yeah my story is basically I used to have nightmares until about the age of 8 or so (totally guessing) where I "woke up" inside a nightmare (gained lucidity) and since then I havn't had a single dream which scared me - sometimes wierd stuff can happen though.

for instance last night a cursed egyptian book killed my mother but i wasn't bothered because I was aware I was dreaming

I've also been killed in dreams (came back as a ghost super wierd) but again not actually scary.

I watched the film Hostel right before going to bed; and although it kinda creeped me out while i was awake i was fine asleep! (crazy huh) but anyway good night all im off to bed enjoy!

Meh, depression runs in my familt, too, and I get DC Death threats daily! It's no biggie, I'd only be worried if they said
"You are going to frolic in love and happiness for the rest of your life, with millions of kittens, puppies and butterflies with hearts flying through the sky"
I'd be like "Oh shit, run away!"
Don't worry, dreams can have meanings, but they are never what they appear to be.

By far, Mothra (in all of it's forms) is the worst kaiju of all time.

I was diagnosed with PTSD and depression last year, oddly enough. It's likely your hypervigilence (symptom of PTSD) that's making it impossible to view the dream as just a dream. I've had the worst dreams and have had citizens of my deam world tell me horrible things over the years. I've come to realize that they were either just bad dreams or a way for my subconscious to inform me about the dangers in a waking life situation that I've already experienced yet neglected to be see the hazards (i.e. dealing with backstabbing people, walking through unsafe areas daily, eating bad food, etc.). The latter is exacerbated by hypervigilence.

Whenever I had a dream in which something bad was depicted or spoken to me, it either preceeded a major change-of-life like puberty and reaching different levels of mental maturity OR it was the result of stressful/unfortunate/traumatic events in current waking life.
