      Waking Life

I just saw "Waking Life" and I thought it was really good, so I decided to post a question here for those of you who have seen the movie. For those of you who haven't, RENT IT NOW! or better yet, buy it, because it is one of the coolest movies you'll ever see.

So if you've seen the movie:

Who is your favorite character and why?

      Wow....tough question.

I like the characters that Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy play (together in the bed) because it's an extension of Linklater's previous movies with them (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset).

But I also like the guy who talks about free will...and the guy who talks about the Philip K. Dick book 'Flow My Tears, The Policeman said' (which is an awesome book by the way, check it out at your local library). The "salsa dancing with my confusion" guy is also great...and the convenience store guy (if memory serves me...that character is played by Linklater).

But anyways, I think my favorite is the guy who lights himself on fire. I love what he says about people being drawn to death and destruction. It reminds me of 9/11 and how everyone was glued to CNN (or whatever channel you prefer) for days on end. No one likes to admit it, but people are definitely drawn to disaters and thoroughly enjoy watching the aftermath.

The two I liked the most were the guy who played the guitar and said "The biggest mistake you can make is to think you're awake.", and the guy who drives the boat car, not so much for what he says, but for the scene where the guy says:

So where do you want out?

Ah, who me? Am I first? Um, I don't know. Really anywhere is fine.

Well, just give me an address or something, okay?

(The guy sitting next to him in the back seat speaks up) I'll tell you what, go up three more streets, take a right, go two more blocks, drop this guy off on the next corner.

      Where's that?

I dunno either, but it's somewhere. And it's going to determine the course of the rest of your life. [/b]

Damn, I forgot about those guys...It's been about 8 months since I've last seen it.

There's something great about all the characters...

The guy who is playing on the Pin-Ball Machine towards the end is Richard Linklater. Hes also in it earlier when hes in that boat-car (hes the passenger).

I think all the characters have somthing interesting to say, but i love the boat-car guy and Alex Jones (the guy going crazy in the car with the loud speaker). Its also been awhile since i last saw this movie, have to watch it again very soon.

A good movie you should check out is Slacker by Linklater, its kinna like the movie before Waking Life (same characters etc).

      Characters in Waking Life:

This has a real deep connection with me, i have studied film for about 7 years now, its genius what the characters have to say in this segment.

All the conversations are great in this movie, defo in my top 5 list of all time.

I would say my 3 fav chars are...
1st the guy who plays the ukulele in the big white room. His voice is so soothing and it blends nicely with wut he is playing. 8)

2nd is the guy with crazy hair on the bridge talking about different philosophies and how life is wonderful (it always cheers me up). Also the part he mentions about how this philosopher guy was excited when he was about to be hit by a car because finally something was happening to him (sometimes how I feel).

3rd is the pinball machine guy because what he talks about is insane with the guy who wrote a book and 4 yrs later he lived his book in real life same chars and places that he had already wrote about. Later he talks to a priest about it and he said he was describing the book of ACTS from the bible......simply crazy.

That was a great movie Belisarius.
I can't recall names. But there were two individuals in particular that I rewound what they had said two or three times. Each time it aroused another question in my head.
I have to watch it again. There is no excuse for that movie to be so vague in my head.

This movie is a great work of art, with revolutionary animation and very nice soundtrack -
I saw it many times, each time finding something new-
I dont' t have a favourite caracter, because all are very good-visual- and have strong, fundamently words to say, with deep meaning- but I think I like Guy Forsythe -

"I had a friend once who told me that the worst mistake that you can make is to think that you are alive, when really you're asleep in life's waiting room. The trick is to combine your waking, rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams, because if you can do that, you can do anything"
      this is beyond experience
