      Chinese control on news

      I've never actually made a post on this message board before...I'm more of a lurker here. I just tend to read all the posts particulaly here in the philophy section. Anyway today I was browsing the news and came across this story:

      Yeah I've heard lots of news about Chinese control on news etc. I read somewhere that China automatically censors the words 'revolution' and 'democracy' etc on blogs that are published inside China. It's kinda scary, but I guess there are a lot of news networks that seem to get a kick out of demonising China (not saying it's untrue). Things like that happen everywhere though... always makes me sad when the media is manipulated to any extent, whether it be an leftist viewpoint or a conservative veiwpoint... yeah sure everyone is allowed a viewpoint, but it should not come at the expense of news. Something that made me nearly choke a while ago was when I read a report on the American government making it's own news stories (with bogus reporters and 'experts' and sending them to networks to be played as if they were real news.

      A democracy is only as good as it's accountability and transperancy and the media is the main way that people can be informed what is going on at the government level, that's what makes me so angry when the media is used as a political tool in any way. Grr.
