I know that this is an old topic, but I was wondering if anyone here can report whether or not the origional poster's opinion about the connection between sex and lucid dreaming is accurate. I sure would like to hear it. |

Super profundo on the early eve of your day
In my experience neither abstinence or regular masturbation is the answer. A more "dynamic" sexual behavior brings more recall and vividness, and those in turn cause lucidity. |

I have been able to fly in my dreams on and off for most of my life. Lucid dreaming has been less frequent with maybe 4 or 5 really memorable sessions. This afternoon I had the most intense lucid dream (actually more like a dozen!) over the space of 2 hours, a real milestone for me, considering my history. I had been abstaining from fulfilling my sexual 'desire' for a good 3 days, but there was also a bit of acoustic and thermal environmental disturbances which kind of kept me suspended. Nevertheless the experience was much more crisp yet malleable than previous times. When I eventually got up, I reflected on the possibility of my sexual energy being linked to mental control (i think because I observed/felt, in one of the dreams, energy pulsing through me quite intensely, with emphasis on the groin area. I could control this energy.). Reflecting on this observation in turn led me here! |

I don't depend on organsmic starvation to have lucid dreams. I have had tons of awesome lucids, meditations, and higher states of consciousness without playing masochistic games. I have heard other people, such as yogis, make the point that depriving yourself of orgasms has spiritual and mental power. Some even preach that you need to avoid communicating with the opposite sex. I have never depended on it. I don't think it's necessary. It's just self-torture. |

How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
