What county do you live in?

In some counties they need jury members so badly (because everyone has learned not to register to vote) that those who are available are allowed no excuses. They MUST serve. If they refuse, they are jailed for contempt.

But, again, as I have said 5 times, if you don't register to vote, it is no problem at all.

Hmmmmmm. Register to Vote and Contempt and Jail. Or not to register to Vote and have a Free and Easy Carefree Life?

A person has to be an idiot to register to vote when confronted with such liabilities.

Why can't you just admit that the Civil Governments should separate the Franchise to Vote from the obligation to serve like a slave on Jury Duty.

Everyone else has seen my point.

Only you think that Voting should be a painful and costly disabillity.

You are exactly why Demoncracy should be curtailed and we should go over to a Civil Service Bureaucracy where appointments are made on the bases of Tested Merit. Why? So we are not all left victim to the ideas and decisions of stupid people and idiots.

Even if you don't particularly like doing jury duty, surely it's not the biggest sacrifice you could make in your life?

Anyway I guess everybody is different and has an opinion of their own.
Again, grow up and think. Now in life you have no responsibilities and can't imagine that you ever will. But some people do and can't simply walk away from them.

And regarding Justice. What is there about a Jury that can't be fulfilled by some other mechanism. A Magistrate can determine guilt. A paid panel of legal experts could determine guilt. Indeed, almost the worst possible mechanism for determining guilt or innocence is a Jury. The Lawyers have learned how to manipulate Juries. Juries are often bribed and corrupt. TELL ME that the O.J. Jury did not have at least one bribed member to lead all of the others toward the Not Guilty Verdict.

Since the Jury System is so disruptive to Society, and SINCE IT ACTUALLY DOES hold the level of Voter Registration down to under 30% in most Counties (whether you argue for it or not, it is THE TRUTH... a Reality that should be dealt with and not simply regreted and lamented) the whole system should be Reformed.

Do you want people to vote, or do you just want to bitch about how much more responsible you are than everyone else.

Also, Bosses really do fire people for having made themselves vulnerable to Jury Duty. yes, no boss can use that as a Cause of Action... but let that Employee come in five minutes late, or open one personal Email on a Company Computer -- Fired!

      That's the real world.

No body is going to register to vote if it will jeapardize their livelihood.

Anyway you can extol the Nobility and Honor of serving the Community by serving for Jury Duty and registering to Vote. you and 30% of everyone else. But mostly stupid people who are tricked into registering to vote without knowing what they are getting into. Stupid People.

But if you want a 90% Rate for Voter Registration, then you will absolutely have to divorce the system away from any accompanying onerous responsibility.

You can't expect people to volunteer to do irreparable harm to their own self interests. And while people need to depend on the Good Will of their Capitalist Masters for a livelihood, then Jury Duty represents an irreparable harm.

I live in a the US and I have never heard of anyone going to jail for avoiding jury duty. Infact I know many people who have gotten out. Infact I have never really heard of anyone avoiding voting to get out of jury duty untill you just brought it up. Everyone I know just calls in and tells them they cant come in and they get off. Some poeple even lie and just say they think everyone is guilty so they get off. I know a ton of people who have got out of it and none of them did it by not voting.

And your still ignoring what has been said like 10 times, it doesn't matter if your register to vote or not. If they get the jury pool from state driver licences it doesn't matter if you vote. And most people are not going to stop driving to get out of jury duty.

And most people are more than willing to let you out for jury duty. If you have jury duty once in 10 years, why on earth would your boss care? 90% of the time you take less than a week off and then your back, thats it. The rest of the time your working for that company you may never have to do it again. No one is going to fire you for that. Its totally not worth it unless your totally incompetent in your job.

I believe there needs to be a test for anyone who wants to vote. You only get to vote if you know a good bit about who you're voting on. You have to take a test to be able to drive, so you should take a test for something that determines the future of the country. This would also help prevent cheating like deceased people's names turning up on the voting list.

The problem with a test is whoever controls the test controls the voting. I don't have a problem with giving people blank ballots though. If they don't know the name of the person their voting for they shouldn't be voting.

That's been proposed, but it hasn't happened yet.
