Another logic problem (Einstein's 2% riddle)

This is one of my favourate riddles.

Try to do it without looking on google :p

      well here goes...

      Einstein's Riddle
The story behind Einstein's riddle is that Albert Einstein created it in the late 1800s, and claimed that 98% of the world population couldn't solve it. I am not sure of the true origin, but I have seen this one floating around the internet, and it is a good brain exercise. Here it is:

      - In a street there are five houses, painted five different colors.

      - In each house lives a person of different nationality

      - These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

Einstein's riddle is: Who owns the fish?

      Necessary clues:

      1. The British man lives in a red house.
      2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets.
      3. The Danish man drinks tea.
      4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
      5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
      6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
      7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
      8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
      9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
      10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
      11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
      12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
      13. The German smokes Prince.
      14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
      15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water.

Good luck, and have fun with this one

Thanks, that kept me busy on the bus today :p
But given the worldwide training in Sudoku we have now, I doubt that 98% of the population could not solve it !

Actually, in theory it isn't much unlike sudoku. The way it works... really.

      I just hate sudoku. : )

I've tried and I've come up with this:

1st house: Norwegian, yellow, Dunhill, Cats and Water.
2nd house: Blue, Horses, Blends, Tea and Danish.
3rd house: Milk, red, British, Pall Mall, Birds.
4th house: Green, Coffee, Prince, German, FISH!
5th house: White, Blue Master, beer, Swedish, dog.

So: The German has the fish... I think. ^^

And I did that in about 7 minutes or so...

So I hope it's the correct answer...

Is this back when 98% of people were illiterate
so only 2% could scribble tables on a piece of paper?

      Agree

I read the first few lines and though to myself "do I really feel like putting any effort into this" and about 3 seconds later I hit the back button hehe.

I fail'd... thought it was the Norwegian. I knew something was wrong though since I got it figured out with most of the info about most of the other people still missing.

Urgh... 30 minutes' work just so I can feel stupid? Thanks a lot.

edit: you guys really all figured this out without making a giant multiarray grid? Now I feel really stupid.

I used a grid, ST! Dunno if it was a "multiarry" or whatever but I did use one.

I probably used the word multiarray wrong (or just made it up entirely), I just meant the typical

      [][][][]
      [][][]
      [][]
      []

graph I was taught to use against these sorts of things. I just feel dumb because even though I hadn't done one in a while I used to be pretty awesome at them back in the day, and was really psyched up to prove to myself I could still do them.

wait... by the laws of probability wouldn't 20% of the people simply guess and guess correctly?

This took me awhile actually, I got caught up on which person had the Blend cigar at one point (I don't really know why, maybe my brain gave in).
I tried multiple approaches but eventually putting each option in a gridbox then crossing them off or whatever worked for me.
