Thread: everything started at one instant

If you think about it didnt eveery event in life really happen all at one time?
To put this theory in an example would be even though in "time" things happened in a certain order...big bang, planets formed, monkeys humans, your parents being born you bening born, i believe it all happened at one time

This theory is really hard to grasp but once you get it, it makes complete sense.
Its like everyone was born at the exact same moment, even though other people have been alive longer than you and others are being born right now.

I will try to go into more depth if this is not undertood. Makes complete sense when you understand it...its just hard to put into words

Uhm, you're saying the universe is one huge "solid-state" four-dimensional block of space-time, right? So there is no past or future, just different places in the universe. Nothing changes, only the part of the universe we observe changes..

DIMENSIONS: Up-down,Left-right,Forward-backward,Future-past (am I right?)

This implies that one could travel in time, and disrupt the nice everyday past-present-future ordering of events. Or wormholes from era-to-era could exist, totally confusing the hell out of mortals like us.

think of the time line not in a line but in layers...stacked on top of eachother

In other words, a past that extends to the beginning of the universe is indistinguishable from a past that extends an instant backward in time, as if everything happened all at once.

It seems like a hypothesis looking for an observation to explain.

I understand what your saying; it is the reduction of time to a mere dimension in a manner similar to space. It is very hard to express in English; I know.


I suppose this is to an extent correct; depending n the nature of the universe. Either way it makes little difference.


I forget which philosopher said "Every action in all time has taken place already" or something along those lines.

You seem to be implying that one could theoretically traverse this 'time-dimension'. Indeed, we should be moving through it at all times.

Wouldn't this require time to do? So what, is there a fifth, sixth, and seventh-dimensional version of time? It's a never ending loop.
