      Love an illusion?

What is Love? I mean, if you say you love with wife, mother, girlfriend etc...You really love them for how they make you feel. You may not love them as a person (does that make sense?). Is love just an emotion / sensation that you can create even without having a mother, girlfriend, wife. As the mind is that powerful I'm sure you can create those LOVE feelings.

      Just a thought.

      ????

      to me it makes sense.

but take momma for example. if you don't like her as a person, how can you love how she makes you feel?

i think that would apply more to gf's/spouse. when you realize they aren't all that and then some. you look back and remember how they used to make you feel, but were too blind to realize what you were getting into. ;p hehehe...

no...sorry but i have to disagree with you on this one. you can hate the person to the point to where it makes you cry...but you can love the way they make you feel.

or the other way around. they can make you feel like shit(excuse my french) but you can love them...it all depends on the person

love is a chemical in your brain. in my opinion you can't love someone, you can only love the feeling you get when you see them and interact with them. that opinion is by no means down playing the idea of love... it's still a powerful emotion, but when people say that they can never love again... they're wrong... love is nothing more than a chemical released from the brain... it just takes the right circumstances and people to bring it out of you. -- some people love more than others... we're all different.

also, this is going into philosophy... has nothing to do with dreaming.

Lovaphine is the chemical neurotransmitter responsible for the feeling of love that is released through the pineal gland throughout the cortex which causes all the sensations of love. The dialation of the eyes and abnoral physical properties are all induced by the excitiatory effects of lovaphine throughout the synaptic firing of the cortex. Lovaphine is also metabolished in conjugation with glucuronic acids and thus creates the inhibiting feeling when the individual stimulating the reproduction of lovaphine leaves the presence of the individual feeling the effects of lovaphine.

This is why you will feel very groggy and despondant once the stimulation ceases; that, "I don't feel like doing anything anymore because they are not here". Also, lovaphine leaves a latent trace of itself throughout the hippocampus creating residual stimulation which is the feeling of when you are unable to focus upon anything else because you are thinking of the lovaphine stimulator too much.

      Hope I have been enlightening.

      Bos Merde.

Hmm... this is an interesting topic. It depends on what you think causes love. Is it an attraction based soley on hormones? Or is it two souls uniting and bonding forever? So I guess it would depend on your beliefs and views on what love is: a feeling or an actual "soulmate" bonding.

For me, I believe there is "love". But it's extremely scarce....

*cough* None of that sciene, brain chemical reaction rubbish for me =)

I think that love is, like many other things, one of the miracles that make up the even bigger miracle of life, and I think that love is more then a simple chemical reaction of the brain, asif we could not love without our dear brain. I think it truely is our soul that generates true love, the brain on the other hand might produce your everyday horny feeling =P, unless the sex is linked to love and a desire to be close to somebody.

I tend to not merely accept scientific theories for not phsysical miracles like love, sure it might have something to do with it, but I know it is more then a simple chemical reaction of the brain, I rely more on my heart and a soul to feel, rather then my brain to think anyway =P (being that a human brain is very limited compaired to the soul)

edit: btw, I dont think about sex that much, but then, I'm gay ^_^

      love

wow....I jus looked "love" up at "dictionary.com" and that was the largest friggin definition I've read yet......

      http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=love

To me... love is but another formality of western culture... love discribes many things....

from sex, to ties of kinship, to how much you prize somthing.

i dont think any word in the human language is as flexible as love... with the exeption of the word "fuck"
i incourage everyone that is not offended by the f-word to download this mp3

      http://media.ebaumsworld.com/index.php?e=fword.mp3

      ................
but back to love..... love is not magical or mystical... love can be found everywhere... its is a condition of bliss or affection.... you can love anything from a dog to a woman... jus dont get which kinda love u wanna have with em or theres jus gonna be somthin sick goin on.....

ok... ive sent this thread to hell... some one delete this asap

lucius! it's always fun to read your thoughts! -- i guess it just comes down to your beliefs.

simply because i like the science side of things doesn't totally close out the spiritual side of life for me. there are tons of things out there that are assumptions made by science... things we take for granted... it's entirely possible that, if there's such a thing as a soul, that it can love. until science brings that into a clearer light i'll subscribe to the chemical idea.

but yes, i'm a guy and i've been described as a nympho... but i've also met women that are far beyond my level of sex addiction.

      Bos Merde = Bull shit

I was waiting till this made it to a second page to say that all that science stuff I said was all made up from my brilliant, manipulating mind! Mwah hahaha!

Of course, there is no such thing as lovaphine and no actual neurotransmitter dedicated to the sensations of love. Plus, even if there was any neurotransmitters or chemicals dedicated to love, there is still that individual that initially stimulates it.

So then.. there is no scientific illusion to what love is; love is the connection of two people on a poetic understanding... Love is unexplainable.. I have written a plethora of poems trying to explain the feeling and no poet in the world could convey the empathy of love to someone who has never known the feeling themself.

Interesting point though... Science cannot be argued with, but any concept of the soul can. Can you prove you have a soul? Science is empirical.. Philosophy is theory...

      Hm..

there's no loveaphine, but there are chemicals that make you horny. you don't even need to look at a woman to get a hard on... all it takes is a thought... something internal... a chemical reaction...

lets not say that horny is all it takes to fall in love (but in some cases it seems to be). if you see this person and you've enjoyed your time with them... you'll build up those memories and reactions when you interact with them. the more you're in their company the more you use those memories... those memories are tied with positive thoughts... could this not be love? can you not grow to love someone?

i don't think love is some abstract thought, not capable of being explained through science... i think it's such a personal thought that people don't want it explained through science... they want something mysterious... possibly the feeling that they have a soul mate in this world... isn’t it funny how people seem to find their soul mate? do you know the population of the world? are you telling me there's only one person out there for me? i'm sorry, i can't accept that.

I once read, studying for a psych class, that love is just the feeling that your brain creates in order to justify sexual intercourse. It is pretty much what we have to link two people together and make them feel connected to each other, which will then lead to the more primal act of sex.

I am not sure I agree with that theory, but it sounds like it makes some sense. I would like to believe that love is something more, though, that theory is a bit depressing I guess...

Love is beyond chemicals, emotions and feeling. Its beyond words. Its from somewhere outside the physical universe. Its an energy force

Science cannot even BEGIN to describe love. It can only describe what is happening while someone is "in love" - and that only during certain circumstances/contexts.

It is pretty much what we have to link two people together and make them feel connected to each other, which will then lead to the more primal act of sex. [/b]
That theory is, as someone aptly put it once: "bos merde"
By the way, that was a pretty cool trick O'nus. lol

For example: Do you have sex with your family members?
Do you have sex with your pets? My hope is that the answers are nope and nope to both questions...

trying to describe love is like trying to describe God. Both are beyond our capability of defining or putting in a box, yet we are capable of knowing and experiencing each, albeit through a lifelong (and longer for some) process.

I would say that many become dissolusioned while in love (or infatuation, given that some don't know the difference).

      ...But an illusion?

Nothing could be further from the truth.
"By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me; a prayer to the God of my life."
