By the way I put this here because it was "vaugely linked to philosophy", which means this could go here according to the forum description...
Okay, so tonight I drank a glass of warm chocolate milk, in hopes of it raising my seratonin level (warm milk has seratonin doesn't it?). I also thought it would make me tired. A couple of minutes later, I became more relaxed. This got me thinking if it was just the placebo effect or if it was the chemicals in the drink that changed my state of mind...
I think the placebo effect works (not really for changing physical things or making things heal faster, but for mental things). If you're a parent and your kid has nightmares, you should do an experiment on him (that sounds evil doesn't it) by giving him a placebo. Tell him/her that it cures his nightmares or anything to that affect, but make SURE that s/he is convinced. Who knows it might work...
Also, someone here should try the same thing on their friends telling them that a placebo (but don't tell them it's a placebo) will make them have crazy vivid dreams or lucid dreams. If you convince them then there is about a 80 percent chance it will work (actually, if they completely believed it, it would be a 100 percent chance).
I don't know where I'm going with this, and I swear at one point I was going somewhere at one point, but I guess not...
