      God -- the control freak.

If God takes life, he's an Indian giver.

So tell me now why, you'll tell me never.

Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Well see what you wanna see. You should see it all.

If God controls the land and disease, keeps a watchful eye on me, if he's really so damn mighty, my problem is I can't see, well who would wanna be?

Who would wanna be such a control freak?

      Good tune.
.......Then I think of my youth and of my first love-when the longing of desire was strong. Now I long only for my first longing. What is youth? A dream. What is love? The substance of a dream.

Seriously though, it does make for quite the metaphysical icebreaker. Awaken-san, d-tamer, anyone more versed in the theology of the particular "God" in question want to give it a whirligig from the opposite end of the field?

Hey, if they can quote the Bible, I can quote Modest Mouse.

Besides, it poses a serious philosophical question.

You would, cause man loves power.

God has given man the perfect path unto perfection, but man wants to take short-cuts, and then bitches when man didn’t get any where. Get back to the ‘path’ and stay on it, and you will be fine.

I wouldn't be surprised if awakened increased his usage of curse word lingo to reach out to all the "unsaved" people here.

Ok, what exactly do you do to quote from several different statements in one post?

I wouldn't wanna be a control freak, but I sure wouldn't mind being in control all the way through.

God doesn't send you to hell
it's not some kind of revenge action

Man walks up to the gates, all by himself, and rings the bell

Nobody would do that, and no loving God would allow it. Allowing a person to burn forever would be infinitely worse than allowing a two year old to walk off the top of a building. "Oh, but free will!" Free will is not worth that. We are talking about eternal torture. No loving God, person, or dog would let that be part of the equation. People who give a happy damn don't let mentally ill people eat themselves, so why would a being more loving than any human allow a mentally ill person (which is what they would have to at least be to choose to be tortured forever) to burn FOREVER?

Christianity doesn't even say that people directly choose to burn forever. It says that people choose to do things like not worship God. If you don't believe in Hell, you are not "choosing" Hell by not doing that. If it is the case that you don't believe the Great Pumpkin wants you to chant his name 12 times a day, but he actually does and will let you be beaten with a billy club for eternity for not doing it, you are not "choosing" to be beaten by a billy club for eternity when you don't chant the Great Pumpkin's name 12 times a day.

Actually, verbatim speaking, Jesus admits that God is the one who throws man's soul into hell. Christians use the "man walks into hell and locks it from the inside" (first noted by CS Lewis) to sound more intellectually appealing. It does have a point, though. The heaven vs hell fork in the road depends on one's choice.

Many people are against Christianity particularly for that argument, but I am not convinced that is their reason for not believing. If that sort of sadist God really did exist, our world wouldn't be standing (floating) the way it is now. And people who use that excuse likely do not even care what they are arguing for anyway, because they already know what they believe, so what's the use of convincing?

But God is indeed portrayed as a very vengeful character, especially in the Old Testament. And mix that with the hymnal's popular "God is unchanging!" piece, it's futile to use the popular rebuttal "But it's the OLD Testament" He frequently ordered stonings for the littlest of crimes, and even advocated the taking of young women for men to wed after invading tribes and villages. Even the most dedicated Christian, David, reflects his feelings in requesting that God kill his enemies in the most vulgar way possible, as well as dashing the babies heads against the stones. I'm guess back then, people were incredibly racist, and religion was one way of supporting that.

I think your god should be tried for crimes against humanity.

That is a good song, and often when listening to it, I wonder about the same thing. If indeed there is some person sitting way up there in the clouds, looking down at every individual at the same time, I don't understand why he/she would want to deal with our crap....And what God would send anyone to hell because they did something wrong. Wouldn't it be God's fault? If he exists, he made people who they are, why did he allow shit like this to happen?

Is that what makes her pretty close?
