Jesus is from jeruzalem right? Every 'picture' of jesus shows jesus as a tall White man. Just becouse the churches in the middel ages spammed so much jesus around, and they all though 'of course the must have been white like us' (bunch of racists people were). It is simply one more hint of athism to suppose that it was never generally known what Jesus looked like and that it was passed along. And about you knowing what people in the Near East look like. Remember this was 2000 years ago. This was before the Arab Traders engaged in a 1000 years of trading in Negro Slaves. You know, if you work with tar you will get your hands dirty. The Arabs never used to be so dark and they never used to have such curly hair. I suppose it is alot like Americas past and future. If memery do serve, about a year ago there was a study on this subject. Jesus was alive roughly around the time of Caeser and such. The Romans kept fairly good records, they were a huge empire, they had too... we know from the records and mosaics that the "style" at the time was the "caeser" cut. It's plasable to assume jesus blended in. Especially during his younger years.

I saw this very Subject on the Discovery Channel =D They made a digital representation of what Jesus would have looked like. He had short curly dark brown hair, not quite black, and had a dark skin tone. Like Arabians or something. It was pretty interesting.

They took no care in order to establish that the oral traditions describing Jesus were ever interrupted, and they made no effort to discern whether there was not then in the Near East and Ionian Regions a strong influence for a facial and coloring disposition that we find in Christ. Indeed, their presentation amounts to nothing more than the lowest level of racial slurs. it would be a thousand years before the darkness and kinkiness would enter into the Near East. Those producers of the Discovery Program, held to no scientific standard were only generating an opinion that would appeal to the Atheistic Community. I wouldn't exactly disregard oral tradition by comparing it to the telephone game There was more to it than hearing it once in a barely audible fashion and then passing it down. It had to involve rigorous training, repetition, and recitation to make sure the correct story would be passed down. This doesn't mean for what is being passed down is truthful and I think that is what you were referring to, but it wasn't a light task. As for your last remark, that to me seems like an absolutist statement in itself.

I agree with Genjyo, we can't totally disregard oral traditions, but i don't think we can trust the major source of them. I don't mean to bash any religion, but in my opinion the Catholic church has a history of distorting the facts into their favor. I think any major christian religion would distort the to their favor. What did Jesus look like? What a silly question...He was a Jew-boy. He looks like your accountant, for goodness sakes. He's from Galilley. Go to Israel and everyone there looks like Jesus (I know, I know, politically incorrect, kind of like saying all black people look alike). About the only difference between Jesus and other Jewish guys is his hair was kind of red, but there are a lot of pure-blood Jews who occationally have that reddy hair. And yes, its crazy that people paint him as a white guy. You want to worship the authentic Jesus, you'd do better taking a picture of a Hasidic Jew (curls and all) and hanging it over your mantle piece. Catholics though get my goat a little bit because they, historically speaking, didn't want their God to look at all like the Jews they we persecuting. Its hard to persecute someone who looks somewhat like your God. Seriously, you want to know what Jesus looked like? Take a digital photo of a Jewish guy, 33 years old, with a short beard, ratty mustach and long hair. Then take it into Photoshop and tint his hair, beard and eyebrows a bit red and there you go. No oral tradition BS, just a normal looking Jewish guy. That was Jesus back in 33AD.

I can say that with quite a bit of confidence. Whatever oral traditions and records were passed down, there's still a limit to how disfigured they can become. We can assume from what's been written about Jesus that he was a pretty average dude, other than the fact that he was a particularly good persuasive speaker and had rather abstract politcal and religious ideals for the time. Physically, though, he wasn't an oddity. A black man claiming to be the son of God in Jerusalem during that time period would be ANYTHING but normal. Racism was alive and thriving there and then, and had Jesus been black he certainly would've heard about it. So much that he probably could never have built up the following that he had. Now, to know EXACTLY what he looked like is still up for debate. Pointless debate, since we can't go back and photograph him, but we can make a few generalizations about what he'd look like, mostly based on race. And racially, Jesus was a JEW. NOT asian, and certainly NOT BLACK. Basically, what Genjyo and Draco said.

Exactly. Like Draco said, we don't know what Jews looked like for sure 2000 years ago, but Jews ARE a race, and we know that Christ WAS a Jew. There's a big difference between a religious Jew and an ethnic Jew.
