Believe what you want to believe!

Hey, i've noticed alot of threads on here that only seem to be here to cause arguments over whether god exists or not, we are all entitled to an opinion of course and another thing we are all entitled to is our beliefs, you can believe what you want to believe, but whenever you make a thread about whether you think god exists or not do not assume you are right and put it across as a fact when it is merely an opinion, i am an athiest (hope that doesn't make me hated) and i believe that a god does not exist, i think that the bible is a book full of contradictions that only contribute to the disproving of god. Now what i just said is an opinion, many of you will probably find great meaning in the bible, i respect your rights and i'm not going to force my views on to you and interpret them as fact. Now, the point of this thread is to discuss your views on the matter without turning it into an argument, by the way i wanted another opinion, what do you think of parents who force their beliefs onto their children at a young age? Don't you think they should wait until their children are old enough to make their own descisions? I think they should and one last thing, has anyone ever seen the film Jesus Camp, this is worrying stuff. thanks alot

I think you're forgetting what an argument is.. by you saying:

You're saying to a die-hard christian "my opinion is that your opinions are wrong" because their opinions are that the bible is all truth. Therefore the first thing they would do and have a right to do on an open forum is to defend their opinions, after all its a discussion forum. You might then defend your own when they come under scrutiny in return and so on...

A:I think you're wrong but i respect you
B:Nope, im right but i respect you too
A:Ha, actually you're not, im right but i still respect you
B:IM RIGHT, DAMN IT!.... respect.

your completely missing the point i'm trying to get across, what i said was merely an opinion, i never stated that it was a fact, now i created this thread as a peace sort of thing so that people can express their opinions freely without an argument starting and your post angers me since you failed to understand what the post is about, when i said "i think that the bible is a book full of contradictions that only contribute to the disproving of god" i was using it as an example of one of my opinions, i never stated that anyone who reads the bible is wrong just because of my opinion. I am saying that everyone has a right to an opinion and should be able to express it, you however have really got on my nerves and angered me how you can just start attacking everything i've said because you have failed to understand what i meant and why i made this thread. Sorry i got a little angry there but i wish you'd read through it and think through it properly before implying that i am contradicting myself.

I know you mean well with the post and i wasnt attacking you personally. As you used it as an example i decided to use it as an example too.. I think your missing my point though.

You have to remember that for some people religion isnt just an opinion like what colour they prefer.. Its a very strong belief system that they live everyday by. To those people it IS fact.

I also think that its the exchanging of opinions that IS the argument, even if theres mutual respect there.. In nearly all cases ive viewed, especially involving religion, its impossible to share opinions about differing views without coming into some conflict. As a discussion you share idea's and views and the other person on hearing your point of view will then convey their own and how that fits around your view (or over it). If both persons then agreed to agree or disagree everything would be great, but as you know that rarely happens heh.

I think its obvious that in nearly all religious discussions the exchanging of opinions wont result in a friendly agreement/disagreement.. But I respect your attempts to make it so.

I believe in God... I just don't believe in religion. It's the root off all evil.

Now that beats the Windows key hands down.

p.s. - both of y'all are missing the 'your'. Quick lesson: if it's something you own it's your. If it's short for 'you are' then it's you're.
(sorry to be picky, it's just one of my peeves is all... I shudder every time I read that mis-used)
