The story of Adam and Eve

      I am just curious

How do you view the story of Adam and Eve? the characters of each?

Real flesh and blood individuals? or a metaphorical representation of something else?

      Explain

It's a good lesson on how you have to choose between being naked and eating fruit God left out for you to not eat. If you eat such fruit, you have to put your clothes on. Then the billions of people who live after you will be punished for the actions of somebody most of them think never existed, and the creator of existence will have to have himself tortured back to home in the form of his son. Adam should have seen it coming.

Well Adam didn't know that his wife was going to turn into uberbitch and give him the bad fruit. Moral of the story, women suck and nudity is sinful after you've eaten fruit......

It's a shitty story, just as Genesis. Neither informative nor entertaining.

I look at it as metaphorical.

Adam and Eve are metaphorical for humans. The eating of the apple and the "fall" into having to till the earth and women having pain during childbirth, old age and death, etc. is metaphorical for humans accepting that there is no such thing as perfection (IE the garden of eden) and that life is fraught with hardships.

God is metaphorical for an asshole father.

The story of Adam and Eve is a silly generic creation story made up by scared humans who wanted simple answers a village idiot could understand.

Look at other relegions they have similary stories dont think to much about symbology because the peopel who made it up were just tyring to make up some answers for people who craved them.

The story of Adam and Eve is not anywhere near to being original, either. Anyone ever read Gilgamesh, which is reportedly the oldest surviving written story? It was written somewhere in between 3000 BC and 2000 BC. Oh, and the story of Noah is in Gilgamesh as well. At least the bible could have been original, eh?

God I love this woman. To the OP, do some research on the Sumerian text (Which is the original text pertaining to Adam or as they call him "Adamu"). In it you will find the story of the 'Epic of Gilgamesh' (the Christian Noah's flood) and many other things. The text is older than the Incans, Egyptians and even the Mayans. However, just as the Mayans...they were a very advanced culture and very knowledgeable about celestial bodies and our solar system as a whole.

I just had a vision of modern day Gilgameshists suing Judaism for plagiarism. I think they should go for it.

I did some reading around taking Jeffs suggestions. Interesting material to say the least. A number of mythologies run parralell with what I see in the Christian accounts reagrding the first man , or in this case Adam and Eve.

Christians would no doubt burn me as a heritic, but while the bible has some historical tellings, I see a much more pertinent metaphorical account molded withing the writings from the creation to the advent of Christ.

My take on it is that this is a metaphorical account of the orgins of the universe and the advent of consciousness and its ties to physical existance.

I could use some cash. I'll join, even though this is largely a man's religion where women are just harlots!

I guess it could be taken metaphorically. It's been said, I can't remember where, "Be gentle with your women. They are made from a rib, and like a rib, they will break if you try to straighten them."

No wait i just thought of the moral of the story.

The message of it all is women are inferior to men, dont let your woman get out of line or she'll fuck up and you'll both regret it.

Ofcourse by now you know the bible was written by men.

He should have, even though he didn't have knowledge of the concept of "wrong", such as disobeying god, since that knowledge was only gained after eating the fruit that god told him to not eat but god did give him free will and also made him as a curious person knowing that he wouldn't know to not eat the fruit and then left the fruit in his reach. Stupid Adam, it's all your fault that it's my fault that I'm a sinner by nature.

The planet Earth exhibits all of these properties and therefore can be considered alive and its own single organism by the scientific definition.

does the planet Earth reproduce, well no unless you count the moon.

That's funny you said "the creator of existence will have himself tortured back to home in the form of his son." It's a wonder why you're an Athiest, It seems that there are some misinterpetation there on your part. Usually happens due to lack of knowledge of the scriptures.

That's mighty brave of you to tell me my interpretion is wrong without clarifying what specifically is incorrect or what the correct interpretion should be. Nice work.

creator of existence (except maybe himself): God

God's home: Heaven, where Jesus went after the resurrection, though he did swing out of the way to Hell momentarily on the trip back home.

      God's son/self: Jesus

torture: what happened to Jesus before he was "killed"

Which of those is incorrect? Explain yourself.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

Guess what UM? IT'S GO TIME!

It's actually pretty simple. The creator of existence and the Son are two different entities. Also Jesus didn't swing by Hell at least not the kind of Hell you're thinking of.

      *Butts in*

What hell are you thinking of? My interpatation of it is that he went down to hell to allow the people who have sinned previously a place in heaven if they so choosed.

Don't see why you think people would be in Hell. Oh let me guess, Satan Tortures people there. Yeah makes a lot of sense. I'm sure it's pretty hot also and they've run out of Figi Water, What a price to pay.
