REM Cycles are the same for everyone?

Okay, so here's the story. I had two friends over spending the night two nights ago and I ended up falling asleep around 2:00 AM and they fell asleep at around 5:00 (so they say). I woke up in the morning around 9:00 AM straight out of a lucid dream. I tend to have lucid dreams more than my friend and destroyed the ability to try a DEILD. I went to my friend who also likes LD's (but rarely has them) and told him to wake up but stay still to try a DEILD. He ended up failing because he thought he was too far out of the dream state (I don't think he was) and then he moved around. We browsed DV to get lucid dreaming in our head, then he asked me something that made me extremely baffled. "How did you know I had just became conscious?"

      Catching on yet? Tl;dr?

My friend and I exited our dreams at around the same time. The only reason I question this is because he went to sleep 3 hours after I did, but he was still on the same schedule. I have decided to run an experiment every night he stays over here. If one of us wakes up from a dream, go to the other one and do the same thing I stated before, see if they are awake. I'm thinking that maybe even if people go to sleep at the same time, for some reason REM cycles stay at the same time? Could the dream world be universal and connected with everyone else?

Has this happened to anyone else? Was it coincidence?

I'd like people to also try and do this.

NOTE: I figured that this MIGHT be considered for Beyond Dreaming/Deep Dreaming, and if one of the moderators move this, PLEASE take it to Deep Dreaming instead of Beyond Dreaming.

If the whole thing is tl;dr, try this.

My friend stayed the night, fell asleep 3 hours after me, but we woke up from dreams at the same time.
I ♥ DREAMVIEWS. I always have, and I always will. There is nothing else to it.

I have narcolepsy and drop into REM in 3 min or less. I sleep about 30 min to about two and a half hours at a time on a normal night. So each time I go to sleep I start an instant REM state. If I was to sinc up with another person it would probably really confuse the other persons patterns. I was married for 6 yrs and it didn't seem to change her, except her dream recall was starting to increase dramaticaly the last year we were together.
