Looking for lucid volunteers for real science!

I am looking for two volunteers to be subjects in a proposed dream-to-dream technology experiment using Emotiv headsets (this device can detect eye movements and capture EEG streams) and an internet site for dreamer coordination. The device cannot cue the subject directly like the NovaDreamer or REM Dreamer masks, but the computer screen/audio will be attempted as the cuing device. The goal is to document the first recorded case of inter-dream communication. The software of the Emotiv device and the internet site will track REM state, lucid state and intentional messaging behavior (via dream eye movements) to scientifically verify that the lucid dreamers are in fact communicating with each other while dreaming. Ideal subjects will be proficient lucid dreamers and preferably experience with some lucid dream induction device. Also, the Emotiv headset will not be comfortable for sleeping, so the ideal subjects will have some tolerance for this. For some background, see my article in the March issue of The Lucid Dream Exchange, www.dreaminglucid.com/issues/LDE%2054.pdf or the 2010 preface to my 1974 book at The Inception of Conscious and Lucid ... - Google Books . Sound like fun? Be part of history! Or something like that.

Could you explain a bit more? I don't completely understand how you plan to have people communicate... like are we supposed to move our eyes IRL intentionally or just try to talk in the dream? And how do you plan to send the message to the other person and have them understand/respond to it?

This is very rudimentary--not Inception dream sharing; all done with external cues (and dream incorporation of the cues) and intentional dream eye movements. Each of these parts has been proven too work in single masks; now it is just the person sending the signal (eye movement) is intentionally targeting the cue to the other sleeper to become lucid. The internet mediation program coordinates this process. See the article I refer to.

Actually with the Emotive device, simple verbal commands in the dream may work as well as eye movements, providing the Emotiv software is trained first for interpreting words like ‘Hello Bob.”

Remember, the meaning of the message from one dreamer to the other has been agreed upon in advance; a red light or auditory beep (that hopefully is incorporated into the dream) may be agreed upon to mean ‘hello’ or’ I am lucid’ or ‘I am flying’, whatever.

I'm pretty interested in seeing how this works. I'll volunteer.

May I take this opportunity to say how much I'm enjoying your book. Heavy going it may be but, blimey, there's some great stuff in there.
As an aside, have you watched the series 'Caprica' ? They use a device called a holoband to enter a world where they share a virtual world similar to that in lucid dreaming. The series is well made and written and worth a look.
One day we will all do this in one form or another and once someone creates a device to initiate an 'instant' lucid dream, the world will come to an end as we know it.

Thanks for reading and liking; it is quite an old book, but some content may still be relevant.

I will check out the series you mention; and, yes, to paraphrase Dylan, “The Times They Will Be Changing.”

Are you interested in being a part of the experiment?

The subjects will use the device from their homes and hook up over the internet via a control site I will create. I will mail the headsets.

I would be interested but I am such a poor LDer that I doubt I would be of any value. My LDs usually last no more than a minute if that. But I'm practising.....

I hope it goes well for you.

Will wait for new NovaDreamer or Dreamstar.

In looking at the Emotiv headset, I have decided it will just be too cumbersome to test with sleeping. I will wait for a programmable NovaDreamer or DreamStar and re-post my thread for volunteers.

As an aside, topcat, do you know of any research that involves equipment based on CES or TMS and LD ? What I'm looking for is research into hardware induced LD rather than chemical. I like the idea of turning areas of the brain on and off to induce LD but I don't know whether this concept will be too 'gross' with the equipment we have at the moment. I do know however that some TMS gear has been known to induce similar feelings that many have at the onset of LD and I thought it may be an area worth persuing.
Any info you may have on this would be helpful.

Just found a useful article here: http://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/o...e/view/586/pdf

I will definitely volunteer for that! I'd love to get to try out the new NovaDreamer. I've been LDing for over 10 years, and have had several confirmed incidences of dream sharing with intended targets both on this forum and off. Yet, even so, I retain a healthy bit of skepticism and would love to be a part of an experiment in an attempt to get some evidence.

(though I'd prefer if I could pick my own dream sharing partner)

When the NovaDreamers can be hooked up via the internet, anyone could pick anyone to be a partner; but keep in mind, this is not advanced dream sharing, just inter-dream communication using light/audio signals and dream eye movements.

Hi there I just joined this forum today but I have been LDing for 18 years now(since I was 4) almost every night and I have more lucid dreams than non-lucid dreams. I would love to help out with a project like this if given the chance. Never used the novadreamer or anything like it but probably wouldn't be too difficult for me to send signals through eye movement while dreaming.

If ya end up getting everything set up and are looking for someone who can LD easily then pm me if you are interested in having me help out.

Alter, I hope you realise what a lucky person you are !
I'm pretty hopeless at LDing and need chemical help. Even then my LDs last only a few mins at the most.

Personally I think you and people like you should start a thread to give any tips you have to poor people like me. Do you have specific techniques to keep your LDs going for instance. In fact anything you may feel useful probably would be useful...
