      Extraneous stimuli

Reading the front DV web I found an interesting idea, to experiment with extraneous stimuli as sounds, lights... It's known that those external stimuli are reflected into our dreams, so it could be another way to attain lucidity.

Most people won't found any person who could touch them, or play with a light in his face before dawn so the idea is as follow: I'd like to develope an electronic device that could apply you those sounds, touchs or lights when a REM is detected. That is, some kind of device that waits until you are sleep, detects your REM and apply you some stimuli. I think that with some training you could recognize those signs into your dreams.

The problem about it is: anyone here knows anything about electronics? I know enough for that and some more, but I want to experiment with someone else, and he/she will need to make his own device, and that would need some electronic knowledgment. Of course I'll try to make the most simple circuits I could, and it could be PC-controlled.

I got the NovaDreamer as a reference, but I want something more, not only 4 leds, I speak about sounds, touching...

What do you think about this?

      Hi Zuarko,

You might want to check out some of the work others on the forum have done on REM detectors. Here's the main REM detector thread, started by Placebo. It seems to have gone dormant, but I'm sure you could wake it up again if you're interested in developing a detector. DV could give the NovaDreamer some friendly competition

Well, that releases me from working in one part of the device, great!

But my idea is not only the REM detector, it is part from it. I want to interact with the dreamer too. When the REM detector sends the detecting signal the device should record it on computer (time, images...) and do something with the dreamer... speaking to him, some lights, scents... etc... and maybe a combination of them...

Mmmm... As I write I think about new ideas 8) the dreamer could choose what should the device do when it detects a REM...

Well... only thinking about it... But if there's someone who understand C++ or visual basic and/or electroniccontact me (PM or here) so we talk about what can and what can't be done.
