hey, I read your whole post. YOu know, if you just sucked t up and did your homework and kept your room clean, it seems that your relationship with your mom woudl eb less strained. I mean really, how HARD is it to clean up and do soem simple hw problems? we all have to do responsibities and follow rules in life we do not want to follow. Just do it and get it over with.

I read it all too. And I have to agree with Barbizzle -- and to some degree with your Mom. The rules may not make sense to you (or maybe anyone else), but we all have rules to follow, and if people don't follow the rules whenever they don't feel like it, anarchy results. Sure, you can go your own way and ignore the rules you think are stupid, but it's only going to get you grief from the people in charge.

Also, if you think you're ever going to get a high-paying computer job without applying yourself in school, following the rules (so you don't get kicked out or something), and making good grades (no matter how pointless the work may seem to you), you'd better think again.

      I read your post.

I employ highly paid engineers - software and hardware.

You wanna know a secret? I ask them to do things they don't want to do. Fairly frequently.

If one of them ignores me too often, I'll leave his body in the dumpster out back and hire another highly paid engineer...

      -------------------------------

So you're in your teens. What languages do you program in? C? C++? Assembler? Do you do DirectX or other low-level API programming? Any demos?

If not, it's time to start making your Aunt's gift count for something. Engineering is hugely competitive. I look for programmers and hardware designers that can learn on their own. That means I hire based not on what you know but what you've demonstrated you can learn on your own with little to no hand-holding and QUICKLY. I want to see a junior programming sucking it up and paying their dues. Owwww, your homework made you tired? Wait until you have to pull a half dozen back-to-back allnighters working on some dumb glue functions that you couldn't care less about. No junior programmer who doesn't have the ability to stick in with that will make Snr Programmer (where the real money *starts*). By the same token if you prove you can take it, you can skyrocket into the real money.

I started back in the late 80s, early 90s. I went from Jr. Programmer to Snr Software Engr in 6 months. Made Architect three months later. Lead Architect at the end of that project, and was VP within 18mo of starting my career. Why? I was willing to do *anything* at *any time*. I proved my value to the company I was with and then used that to climb the ladder beyond that company.

My long-winded point? If you think sucking it up in school is hard, just wait until you set foot into that world you're dreaming about.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.
