      First was Kimpossible. *

Now Ex Nine is gone. *

It seems like every time I come here this place gets less cool. I don't know how much longer I'm going to stay at this rate. And to top it all off, Nazies are invading the forum.
Well, that was Kimpossible's choice. She wasn't permanently banned, only suspended temporarily. I know all about this first hand.....the best thing to do is accept it, beat yourself up for a weak (don't forget about LD suicide) so you won't do it again, talk to Seeker/Icedawg via Email for a week, then go on, expecting to get put down. Kim did not want to go through all of this, so she left all together. It is possible, though that she could be permanently banned for making a 2nd account, though (see the rules).
Ex Nine was banned for some cruel remarks. But afterwards, he started making rude comments to the members as a guest on another computer. Then he called poor Icedawg an A_Hole, which was hurtful to him, & to some of the other members on here who care about him.
There are several reasons why banning can occur:
~Insulting the Admins can result in permanent banning, so never do it.
~Posting about something that completely confuses the Newbies (like ...?) too many times other than in senseless can result in temporary account suspension, though I know nothing about permanent banning in that category.
~Hacking into someone else's account can result in not only permanent banning, but can summon the police (I would have to say the most famous person to be banned like that which was pretty popular on here, & was promoted & everything was Kaniaz).
~Being seriously rude & abusive to alot of members can get a temporary ban, but done again, & it can be permanent if done after the temporary bans.
~Illegal advertisements, Pornography, and more can get you banned as well, depending on the seriousness of it.

And like Howie said, many of us, & the admins are highly forgiving. Though some of the members may not be, so most people just leave if they are banned/suspended
However, those that have had a record like that have no hopes of being promoted (I know about that, b/c I went on a thing about Forums that said, \"Never promoted a member that has had a record of being suspended, reguardless of how loyal they have become\") And this kind of goes into their permanent online record, which could hinder them in a job that they get in the future.

And don't worry, Mark75, most of us don't plan on breaking the rules or anything. If they do, then they aren't really very good friends to have, are they?
Oh, & I'd totally cream you at SSBM!! [/b]

The subject is that cool people are getting banned. Someone asked why people are banned, so I answered that questions.

Err, no, I don't think I will. I'm just saying, what you said was just, completely wrong. Here's a list...

Killing yourself and/or inflicting damage mentally or physically on your body (in a dream or in real life) isn't the right way to deal with being banned from a FORUM

Admins won't permanently ban someone for insulting them.

The police don't give a shit if someone hacks into someone's account on Dreamviews. Sorry.

Any job that you try to apply to won't give a flying.. poop.. about whether you got banned or suspended from Dreamviews or any other forum. Plus there is no such thing as a "permanent online record."

Lastly, as a wise man once said, “Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.” No, I never said "don't obey authority" but the position itself doesn't mean whatever someone says is true, despite what you may think

I love it! Yes, I was afraid I was going to have to move this post because it was not senseless. Glad it has wandered back into Wackyland!

That and I noticed that the admin and mod teams all had power in this section, so that it was reasonable to assume that they'd check through topics in this section, and therefore was more likely to get responses from them if I placed it here.[/b]

Nes, from what it sounds like, you were hacked AT SCHOOL. In which case it's likely a violation of whatever school rules you've got regarding computers.

In the real world, hacking isn't a crime. Leastwise, it isn't an actively punished crime. The only way you'd get arrested for hacking was if it was into a government site, or possibly a large business. And on what you did when hacking. IE: iF you hacked WalMart, but only looked around, you wouldn't get in trouble. Mostly because there's no evidence to be brought against you. But if you posted what you found somewhere, and it damaged WalMart somehow, they MIGHT be able to build a case against you. But the evidence is still very...static. It's difficult to prove anything involving computers. And if it's just on a public forum, you won't get bothered for it. I doubt that you even COULD be put into legal trouble for it. Especially since DV is an international forum. Hosted in Canada and all that.

      Different countries have different laws.
I would say it should still be illegal to do that, since that happened one too many times to my website.

forgoing the obvious at the "permanent online record" comment, as cynically, I think it'll happen (.NET passport, anyone?)
would there be much point of having one for hacking offences?

Yeah, but if Icedawg were to say, 'Contact the ISP' of the hacker, it does make a permanent record of that!

I can assure you, they wouldn't
they have paying customers with real problems to sort out
but even if they did, so what
move to another ISP - clean slate

plus, I'll wager £10 that icedawg couldn't identify half of this sites' member's ISPs, anyway
(no offence meant - we are in a thread about banning, so I'd thought I'd add that in quickly)

most isp's allocate IPs to subscribers that have no DNS name attached to them

the best you could do is guess what country someone's from, from the first 3 digits of the IP
(that's assuming the person is using an isp from their own country, which you don't know for sure, and that isp has registered domains with that countries delegated registrar, which you also don't know)

First of all, you aren't really "dealing" with depression by acting out suicidal thoughts in your dreams.

Err, sure, they have the "right" to boot people who insult them, but they won't, because if they did there wouldn't be anyone on the forum or they would be dearly disliked.

Yes, I remembered that time... a kid you knew went onto your computer account at school. . But seriously, you won't go to jail for hacking into an account on a forum.

And uh, I don't know what you're talking about, because there isn't a "permanent online record." It isn't like school...

Oh, and I hope that last statement was a joke. Sometimes I think your presence here is just a con.

Yeah, I am. It is seriously helpful when I get a bit upset....I can just take it out on myself in there....& no consequences for that!!
Well, it is Icedawg's decision, not ours, so we'll have to let him decide how he'll deal w/the insults.
Well, that kid did get his Internet priviledges docked, got kicked out of all of my computer classes back then (was a junior then, now a senior), & actually got in big trouble w/officer Bryson. Whether he went to jail or not, I know not!
If Icedawg contacts you ISP, then that could be permanent!!
      It was....
My presence here is a con......well thanks alot!! I really needed that after getting put down on the bus for talking about LDs/...? again.
