I don't exactly hate Microsoft for creating the greatest all around operating system, but yeah, I use Linux sometimes.

Windows is actually a great OS. I have used and am using Linux (Red Hat, slackware and debian) at home and are using solaris in school but windows is still the easiest and most compatible OS I have tried.

Well, I do like linux(mandrake) better for its stability.I have both, but I mainly use windows nt 2nd editon, and windows xp.Me and my friend were thinking about company names that haven't been thought of yet the other day, and we decided that if we were to create a big monopoly it would be called MacroHard.Unless their is already a dildo/vibrator company called that, I don't know I'll ask icedawg.

I have always said that would be the name of my company as well....

Anyway, it seems everyone here is lining up to be on Ice's list. I don't like feeling left out...I shall think of something...

      Mandrake is the best! w00t!

I like Windows 2000 second best. It is really one of the most stable things. 2003 Server and Longhorn are really kinda buggy (Longhorn obviously is).

I have linux on my dreamcast.

They had a picture of Bill Gates saluting like hitler in our paper today. I think we are all on crack down here.

I find APPLE more user friendly, easy, but efficient, it has LITTLE problems, and it has an apple on it! its healthy for you.

I am using a PC because i am in Europe currently, and there is little market for Macintosh out here.

I suppose I should provide some reasons as to why I don't like Windows. And I've got some pretty good ones, too.

      Windows Sucks at Security
For example, eEye Digital security have found 2 new high-security-risk hacks, and have reported them to Microsoft. You know how long they've been making a patch for? 181 days. The number of machines that are vulnerable to this hack are 300 million.

      Windows Requires "Activation"
It's more of a pain in the ass that much else. If you are like me, and have to reformat alot, you will of already discovered you can't activate anymore after 11-or-so times.

      Windows is behind in Techology
I believe Longhorn has these two "new" features, Sidebar and Virtual Desktop Manager.
One is already aviable, and so is Virtual desktop which is even a standard part of the Linux operating system. This is surprising; since Linux is free, and Microsoft happens to have soooo much more money than Linux, you would expect them to have a better OS.

Windows is just about a stable as an Avalanche
Crashes, crashes, crashes. They've had at least 5 years of devolpment- they should get it right by now.

      Too expensive
Windows have so many damn versions of it out, and in such little time. For example, Windows 95...Then before you know it, Windows 98. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to pay bloated prices.

Longhorn has a billion new features. Some of them are pretty cool if they would work right...

      Oh, and the dreamcast...:

We don't need new features for Windows. We need the current features to to work right.

I write Linux here but I mean Linux, other Unix-systems and many of the applications for it.

      Linux sucks at updates
Sure, when a bug or security hole is discovered in Linux a patch comes pretty quick, and then another, and another...
They fix the problem quickly, but it's usually only a temporary fix that doesn't last because they hurry to much to get it out and don't test it properly.

      Linux is behind in techology
When I say "technology" I don't mean little smart/useless features but new hardware. Finding drivers for a Linux system can be a real pain, then getting them to work...

Windows is just about as secure as a tent
That should get the attention of all Linux-admirerors(spelling?) out there. Sure, Linux --and other Unix-systems-- are probably among the safest OS's out there but it requires work, a lot of work, to get it safe. As an example, a while ago a security issue was discovered in a module in BSD that was active as default. So many unsuspecting users had a big hole in their security.

      Too expensive
Yes, that's right. Time is money and it takes time to get it to work properly, and then you need to update it constantly so it will continue to work properly.

      Too complicated
Let's face it. The regular user will never switch to Linux while you have to search obscure directories for manuals and then edit text-files manually to get a program to work the way you want it to.

Finally I just want to say that I don't write this to criticize Unix-systems. I think the Solaris system I'm using while writing this works great. I just want to do somethin about the onesidedness that often occur while discussing Windows vs. others. Linux users often think that Linux is infallable and that Windows always crashes (my computer with WinXP hasn't crashed for a while, and before when it crashed all the time it was because of the RAM)

PS. I installed debian on HDE6 and let it create a boot-disk but the disk can't boot the system. Any ideas? DS.

Ah, time for me to use the English language to my advantage.

I was just making a statement. I wasn't saying it in relation to your post, I was just saying Linux is free which is a good thing.

      (Well, I wasn't really, but I felt like making a stupid cover-up).
