Ok, everyone has to post a little factoid that they've found out recently that they didn't realise they didn't know. here's mine: It's unlucky to wed in red.

well, i may be mistaken, but i don't think so... y'know how sometimes you real-ize the true meaning of a word? like, for the longest time i didn't know "earing" was an ear-ring well, yesterday i read the word "lousy" and realized that a single lice is a louse, and thus lousy means lice-infested.

oh, i heard such a delightful story from my latin teacher a few weeks ago, so i've forgotten some of it: i think it started with claudo, clausi, clausus... meaning to close something, (the english word close, closet, clause etc. come from this word) but also the word "claustra" (in dutch: "klooster" [cl-ow-str (as "to stir")], in english: monastery) then we got (someway or another) to "capella" (dutch: kapel [kah-pell (kah -> the "ah" as in killimanjAro)] in english: chapel) from that, we got to the cappuchin order (some church-stuff), and from that word, the words "cap", "capuchon" [kah-pooh-sh-ohn (as in jOHN-] (dutch for: cap), kap [kah-p] (dutch for hood) etc come from... now the hoods (kap) of these monks looked like the "kap" (hood) on top of the beverage, and thus it was called "cappuccino" (or something like that) yeah, latin rules...
