I'm curious, do you use specialized carving knives, or just the usual three-bladed slipjoints? (Hen & Rooster, Queen, Old Timer, etc.)

I use blades mounted solidly in handles. Folding blades are a no-no. Carving with a folding pocket knife is begging for injury and blood loss. While I always carry a razor sharp pocket knife, I use one for carving only on very rare occasions. I have a picture of one blade style I use in my woodcarving thread (I think it's on the first page).

When I get a chance I'll post a picture of the complete gamut I use. I mainly employ two different blades: One larger, one smaller. However, I picked up two curved-bladed knives at the show this year and I'm finding some uses for them already.

Nice. That's what I thought, but I do know some old timers that carve with penknives. I've never done any carving myself, just the usual whittling.
