I think one person's thoughts on what makes someone stupid vary from anothers too much to answer your question, Ynot. I mean, you may think someone is stupid for doing something, and they in return may think that you're stupid for not doing that thing. So, to answer the question we're going to need specifics. Oh, and BTW, I'm impressed at how serious everyones reponses have stayed so far. So here, cookies for everyone. Whoops, I just ruined it didn't I?

Ethnocentrism is a delusion. Stupidity is an inherent inability to learn. It is often confused with ignorance, which is a lack of knowledge. It isn't the same. Life would actually likely be much simpler and more pleasant if everybody was stupid. Our problem is that we are anything but. We choose ignorance, we immerse ourselves in self-justification, and we lie about everything. In our arrogant hedonism, we carefully select what little knowledge we deem important, then filter even that through our self-serving self-interest. Give me stupid people to spend time with, and we'll have genuine fun. I wish there were more stupid people in this world. I find them delightful.

Stupidity and lacking common sense. Would you say they go hand in hand? I mean stupidity; I believe is in everyone. At some point we do stupid things, it's human nature to make mistakes. Unless you refer to lack of intelligence? In which case, I can sympathise. It really bothers me when I have to deal with people at work who lack competency and intelligence; mainly because it invariably means my work is doubled. As the saying goes; "If you want something done properly, do it yourself."

Because all we needed to evolve into our present state is the intellectual capacity to hunt, collect food, out-wit rival people for competing on finding a mating partner, build simple tools for cutting, hunting etc, make fire, defend against rival tribes, make clothes etc etc. And you can do all these things while still being quite stupid, which is why we ended up being this way.

First of all, stupidity is subjective. And since you've still omitted any examples of where you are observing this stupidity and what you even mean by "stupidity", we're forced to generalise so much that the discussion has no meaning. Do you mean stupidity in the sense of "lacking knowledge", "doing dumb things", what? Or are you saying that people annoy you? Being annoying isn't the same thing as being stupid. So, the stupid answer is: "What the hell are you talking about?"
