You're just popular, that's not a bad thing.

Can you customize a message to say something like, "Away, ie, DONT MESSAGE ME"?

I know! I mean you can actually be away, out, not home and someone'll message you and think you're ignoring them. Though other times, you are actually trying to ignore them

Oh yes, I did that before. Set my MSN Personal Message to say that, and what did I get? "Hey Kev, I know you're not there, just leaving a message. Get back to me later"

I leave my pc on all the time, when I am away, have messenger plus leave an auto reply, i like getting messages though

There are tons of people that put up an away message and leave it up for every second they are online, so a lot of people don't normally look at that one and consider not messaging someone because of it.

If I don't want messages from people, you know what I do? I sign out

I have people on my MSN messenger... but no one really ever IMs me except for Adam lol and now that Mes is home again she IMs me when she's on.

But the same thing happens to me on Yahoo Messenger. I usually keep myself as invisible so people dont bug me, but yet they still IM me... so if I don't feel like talking, I exit the window without saying anything.

EDIT: Or I'll put up an away message saying that I'm in the other room, or I'm at work and I'm busy and they'll still IM me like I'm right there. Sometimes I am there and just want them to leave me alone, but shhh they don't need to know that!

hm...i got msn plus for msn live so there's an extra to that. when you put your status to away it asks you if u want to put an auto-message. so i put something like "don't bother me...I wont answer anyways!!!" and everytime someone writes a message to me it pops up in his messenger window. so everytime he tries to says something i can't see him and the message keeps coming out. so finally the person gets tired and stops writing. theres also lots of other extras of msn plus. here's the link if u're interested.

That is totally annoying. That happens to me on yahoo. I can be on invisible and I still get the random message like, "you're usually on around this time, just wondering if you're being stuck up.." or something to that effect.

And telling them you're busy doesn't deter them. So yeah, the only thing to do is sign out if you don't want to deal with them.

I get this but then I never say i'm going or do the "away" message. So it's my own fault really.

What confuses me is, why do you leave it on then? What's the point of putting it to away if you're not even going to use it? Sign off, mang.

I sign in at certain times and wait for someone else to log in or if he's already signed in then I start chatting to him and then forget to go invisible so I end up being annoyed by other people.

And when I say, "I'm busy, i'll talk to you later," the others seem to suddenly not comprehend english anymore.

What Vex said. There are some people that I would like to talk to, or at other times wait for a specific someone to come online.

I gave up on IMing. I'd talk to someone once or twice, but then when I logged on, there would only be one or two people that I actually wanted to talk to, but I'd end up with messages from people whose conversations I never remembered. Just too much of a hassle.

I suppose it would be pretty, err, senseless, to post just to say that I don't have this problem, wouldn't it?



But that's just what I've done... Edit: I have been know to stay invisible until certain people or a certain person gets online, though.
