Why so many teenage/20s boys here?

I'm curious. Is it because lucid dreams are like virtual-reality 3-D video games?

I'm used to being on psychology-related discussion forums that are strongly female-dominated. One that I'm on also seems to have a lot of 30-something Generation X people. I'm not used to seeing quite so many young males on discussion boards. Maybe it's just my imagination or the posts I read. I don't know.

And don't worry, I'm not criticizing or anything. Teenage/20s males make good dream sex partners.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

      That IS a good question.

One reason, possibly, is because so many sexually-related terms and phrases end up being used when discussing our dreams. The search engine picks 'em up... and the rest is self-explanatory.

      There's one hypothesis.

      THE INTERNET.

The vast vast vast majority of internet forum users/timewasters are of that lovely group.

I think thats actually a good hypothesis.

Another reason though is mainly in the teen and young adult years people start getting interested in this kind of thing and start exploring things more and it ultimately leads to discovering something like this and participating in it in an attempt to learn more.

True...I did get interested in lucid dreaming when I was about 17 myself...but...why males? It sort of surprises me that so many boys would be interested in dreams. I thought psychology in general tended to be more of a girl thing in Western culture, and I count dreaming as psychology.

Actually, now that I think about it, I used to be active on one other young-male-dominated psychology forum: INTP personality. But then, you'd expect a lot of INTP personalities to be nerdy males. Not necessarily young, but it is true that a lot of younger people tend to be on the internet. But like I said, I'm active on another forum, a spinoff of a forum about obscure personality typing, that has a lot of females and 30-somethings. So subject matter does influence the particular demographics of a forum. AVEN, the asexuality forum, is also female-dominated, because guys are at least probably less likely to admit to wondering if they are asexual.

Probably because the younger generations are more comfortable with the internet (let alone joining and participating in a forum) like some people have said. Maybe also because lucid dreaming has a slightly "new age" vibe to it, and older people see it as just another mystical whacko deal...

Edit: I didn`t really cover the "male" part, but isn`t it just a standard to have more male participation on anyhting that has to do with computers?

I think it is because for lucid dreaming you have to be open minded to the possibilities, and well girls just aren't!

      JOKE!

I think girls of this age are more interested in going out, and enjoying their teens, rather than sitting in at a computer, on chat forums? I know when I was this age, although the internet had not really taken off that much, pretty much all of the girls I knew were not into computers as that was the geeky thing to do, they would rather be out with their friends, chasing boys and what not. But the boys are into computers, and computer games, so naturally, they find the forums.

Now clearly this is a generalisation and does not apply to everyone before people start getting offended - not all computer users are geeks, and not all girls are out chasing boys, but it is common knowledge girls mature faster and are more into doing grown up stuff at a younger age and messing on computers is not one of those things...

      Anyway, just my thoughts...

      ...humans, asexual?

You do realize that's impossible, don't you?

You wouldn`t be saying that had you been castrated before puberty...

Asexual is without a sex. Asexual reproduction is the same thing. Cells are asexual and some insects. Humans cannot be asexual, its scientifically impossible.

Unless, as Spart said, they were castrated before puberty. But I think they'd be pretty certain if that happened...

What they mean by "asexual," which may not be an official definition of the word yet but they're probably working on it, is people who do not feel sexual attraction to any of their fellow beings beings and desire sex with them. It's in the same vein as homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual. It's still an overly broad definition, even if it makes sense to use it to describe humans who aren't interested in sex, because they use it to encompass people who are happy masturbating and/or who experience romantic attraction, but just have never wanted anyone "that way" for "that reason." But I do think people exist who have no sex drive, no desire for romantic realtionships, or simply no desire for *sexual* relationships, and are not diseased or do not feel they are diseased as a result of it. I pondered being "asexual" myself, but I don't count myself as such anymore, because the only trait I have is not wanting sex with an actual partner, but I do think I've been sexually attracted to someone before (even if not in many years), and much of my avoidance of sex is out of pure fear. As you might be able to tell if you read my signature or some of my posts, I'm uninhibited in lucid dreams where there are no social or physical consequences.

      Asexual = can't get, won't get.

Anyway, I think the whole VR thing the OP want on about is a very plausible explanation. It was this aspect that brought me into the field, and it is still the driving force behind it.

But what's bad about the best goddamn VR you can get? Nothing. And that's why I don't understand the gender/age sway the OP suggests (I'm way too lazy to find out whether that's true or not).

But yes, I think the casual Internet must be 60-70% male in the first place, although Facebook/MySpace is reducing that to evens now.

Ahhh, I see. That makes much more sense. So more or less just a simple lack of, or a minimal, sex drive? Thanks for clearing that up.

And Off-Topic in general. I hardly ever post in the dreaming sections anymore. I really should, though. Especially with the dreams I have...

I usually only read the dreaming sections (although I have been trying to regularly post there lately). The main reason that I stay here is for the subliminal value and the community.
