It's because the object get's more saturated. Also, water isn't necesarily clear, that's just the way our eyes see the waves.

It's not short for Charles, it just is a more popular, slang term for it. You don't see people walking around saying "Hello Charles! Cup of tea at 6 o' clock?" do you? Well, depends on location...
Why do companies offer you "free gifts?" Aren't gifts by definition free?
Gifts are things that are recieved. You can pay for a gift. Also, that gift (no matter what it is) has to be paid for, because the giver had to pay, and even if it was a free offer, the company would need to pay to make it. Also, adding "free" to an offer makes it sound more appealing.
