So, it's about 1:09am December 13th 2008. I am driving east along HWY 400 in Kansas, about an hour from Wichita. My wife is next to sort of dozing off and I am deep in thought when something bright grabs my attention out of the corner of my eye. I look out my driver-side window and notice a very large and very bright green fireball shooting slightly over us, about 30 degrees up to exact, and soaring exactly parallel to the horizon. We were traveling 70MPH, a little over the speed limit and this thing comes from behind us from nowhere and streaks past us at an incredible rate of speed. It only lasted about four or five second before it dissipates or vanishes behind a cloud. By comparing the meteor to a full moon I would estimate that it was about 3/4 as bright and a little less than half the size of a full moon; relatively speaking of course. |
