      voting

      so one friggin question.

why can stupid, ignorant people vote?

i'm not sure if there is a thread on this but i could not find one so i'll just make this one.

so like i have talked to many of my friends and family and apparently the lots of them voted for obama, which i think is fine, but when i ask them about his campaign and his plans for the future, they stare at me like i just asked them to explain quantum physics!
i am out-raged that there are actual educated people whom are taxed, just like any other american and yet are not allowed to vote.. teenagers.

yes i understand why they aren't allowed, but still, is it not complete bullshit that these "responsible" adults vote for someone whom they know nothing about, to lead our country, yet people who are actually into politics, and actually know what's going on, don't get to have their votes counts because they are drowned out by stupid, idiotic votes?

think about it, if we were to only allow people to vote, if they actually knew something about the candidates. and not only one but the top two. that way the public would be informed and would know exactly why they are voting for this person.
      that is just my opinion...
      input plz?

But seriously, there is no intelligence test required to vote, there is no reason you must vote for one or the other, common sense is only relevant to your morals.

Why can stupid, ignorant people run for offices? (That was totally aimed at Bush.)

Like no-name said, there's no test required before you vote. I don't know why they don't let people 15 and over vote, I guess they think they have impressionable minds. Everyone does though.

Sure it's bullshit, but that's how the cookie crumbles in America.

      I doubt there'd be many voters. >:

Then again all presidents tell lies to get themselves in office. Always have, always will. Republicans will say things that sound pleasing to Republicans, maybe a few Democrats, so if you're a Republican you'll more than likely vote that way, same goes for Democrats, they'll say things that please the Democrats ears to get the votes.

You'll never see a presidential hopeful person stand in front of a camera talking to the nation and say things that displease them. They're going to pucker up and kiss the American's ass to get into office.

that is very true, and is why i bow my head and shamefully shake it... *bows head and shamefully shakes it*

it just seems like our government, our system, everything is getting shittier and shittier every year, month and fuckin day. it's inevitable ii guess...
but well you are right, when we vote, it doesn't really matter cuz both the republicans and demorats are just full of it so either way i guess our votes just count towards shit...

      it saddens me...

You know, I was feeling similar around election time. I really busted my ass to learn as much as I could. I was mad at all the people who didn't vote because they felt they wouldn't make a difference, or they didn't like the two options provided... Well fuck, maybe they shouldn't vote anyways, who is worse, the ones who refrained from voting or the ones who voted for the popular one?

Personally, I think if you're going to bitch about the economy, then at least make the effort to learn and vote. I didn't vote for Obama or McCain, not that I'm hurt about who won, but because I felt my vote would be better off going somewhere else, and I felt the candidate I voted for best reflected my views.

How many people felt their vote would make no difference? K, so add all those people up, that's a pretty big difference I think.

K I don't wanna edit, if I fucked anything up, don't judge, my brain is tired right now.

I honestly don't think my vote makes a difference. As far as I can tell, I don't think anyone's vote makes a difference. The entire voting system is fucked up to begin with. If I live in Utah, and 90% of the state votes republican, then is there a point of waiting in line for an hour to cast my democratic vote?

If I don't like either of the two candidates who are running I'm sure as hell not going to vote. After Bush was admitted for a second term, I thought to myself "Well, If Karry and Bush are the two people at the top of the ladder in this scheme...Then fuck it."

Everyone is biased in one way or another. I'm not totally going to agree with what one person has to say. Maybe, if they'd merge the the top republican, and top democrat as presidents there would not be such a problem in my eyes.

But to make one make the sole "ruler" (I know he doesn't have as much power as you'd think a pres might have) kind of irks me.

Watching Fox News and CNN in the days preceding Obama's presidency it was clear to see that they were trying to persuade people of who to vote for. The candidate's contributors that would offer to benefit to the News channel's and their subsidiary channels' owners.

There's a lot more going on in the whole '"voting" process' than I know about. I sincerely want to know, but no one is going to straight up answer the questions I have.

      1. Why do candidates have contributors in the first place?

      - To me it seems that whichever candidate has the most money to blow and advertising and rallys--aka persuasion, is the one that's going to win.

      2. Why don't we just merge the top democrat and the top republican?

-This is America...We need leaders who can cover the whole spectrum--100% of the people's needs. Not just one leader covering 60% of the people's needs (Believe it or not, you own the government...it's not the other way around.)

      Edit: Also

      3. Why even have political parties at all?

-This only serves to discrete the nation, instead of bring it together under a common understanding. I realize that not everyone is going to agree with each other...we never will. But there's no point in two unopened minds arguing with other. Or even an open mind vs. a closed mind for that matter.

-My parents and grandparents, for example have always voted republican, regardless of being totally blind to what the issues are.

-Myself, I have yet to vote. If my only choices are between a douche bag and a turd sandwich, then why would I want to vote?

      Which leads to

      Another Edit:

      4. Why don't we have more options to vote for as a people?

-Even in the secondaries and primaries, I saw no candidate that caught my eye. It's just a bunch of greedy fucks trying to gain power to suit their own needs.

-Oh wait, that's because the News channels hosted the debates, and everyone knows that News channels operate solely on emotion rather than on logic (kind of like operating on fossil fuels that fuck up our planet, rather than being fully capable of Earth/Sun powered energies, but not using them.)
