      Rant

Yes, I am ranting again... which I haven't done since last semester. I really only rant when I've been close to crying in class... or actually did in this case. I hate crying in class, it's embarassing! I told myself, "Leave or else she'll call on you and you'll start crying," but did I listen to myself? NO! I don't like Spanish. I DON'T GET Ds ON TESTS!!!! EVER!!! And after a half-hour of trying to compose myself (unsuccessfully) in the bathroom, I go back in after class to get my stuff and she tells me, "No te preocupes..." along with some other crap that I didn't understand besides the words "dificil" or "a veces"... Ugh! I'm so mad, but I don't know what I'm mad at. I didn't have enough time to finish that stupid exam or else I might have done better. It's not my fault, Sra. Gonzales, that you don't speak a word of English, know I'm not very good with oral comprehension, but say stuff to me anyway and assume that I understand you! Ugh!

I'm going to drop that class, only I have to find something to replace it with, as that class if 4 credits and when I drop out of it I won't be considered a full-time student. And since I'm dropping Spanish, I get to start on another language next year, probably Arabic. As if my schedule won't be busy enough already. I don't understand why I get through Russian with flying colors, but I can't pull myself through crap with Spanish. I'm just so frustrated and don't know what to do.

      [/rant]

Sorry, just something I had to do.

I feel ya' there. (heh, not literally)

I have the same problem with French. It's just ridiculously annoying. My teacher told me "Language is pattern...blah blah blah...". Here's the surprise: there is no fucking pattern. In fact, even if I sound a bit nationalist here, english has a very decent pattern to it, considering its difficulty to foreigners. The rules can be hard, but once someone has mastered them, there's not too much of a problem.

But that's not the whole case here. More often than not, people do not see the point in taking the language. You probably learned Russian because of an interest in it, consciously or not. But other than that scenario, there's no point. Because in our little heads, we realize that learning a language will not necessarily net you that 500k super job. If you can speak Spanish, that's fine. But truthfully, the language is only useful on a more down-to-earth level. The higher you move on the working ladder, the less useful and practical it comes to use the language. You'll usually have subbordinates speaking for you anyway.

I must say that I have no real desire to learn a language. Tell me some real practical uses if you have any.

Yes, I'm feeling better. Anyway, I'm going to go to my advisor tomorrow and see what I should do since I know for a fact that I wouldn't pass that class with anything better than a C. I'm thinking of just taking 201 next semester, but it's annoying because I don't want to have to waste my time on it again. However, if I take another language it'll just mean more work for me to do... Ugh, choices!

Oh well. (A good rant will just about solve any problem)

Anyway, I'm majoring in Russian because I want to get a job as a translator. Even though I'm passing on the 500k job, I have no desire to be an uber-executive and get blamed for every problem the company has. Rather, I'll just get paid for speaking between people. Yah, it'll be fun I'm a follower anyway, rather than a leader.

I'm taking Spanish 2 at my highschool. I can't say it's my favorite class, but I seem to be doing well in it. There are a few parts of it that we've learned that I just have not grasped yet....Perhaps I will in the future. Our school only has the option of taking Spanish....And we have to take it to get the comprehensive diploma (2nd best diploma). I wish we had more of a variety...Oh well..I'll be a senior next year....I can't complain. I hope Amethyst, that if you hate spanish that you can drop it...I hope you are happier when you get out of it!
