I went in to court at 10am, and my public defender got the case dismissed on the grounds of (my words, not hers) "It's a bullshit charge"... but using legal terms.

I'm gonna talk to my mom's lawyer to see if I have any legal recourse against them because of unlawful arrest and detainment. Because AFAIK I didn't actually break any laws.

I do have to say, they found my bowl and grinder, but didn't charge me for that. So I guess I can't complain too much.

It's something they might bring up in court if you do decide to try them.. I can't imagine how they'd let you off with that, but you ought to be thankful it was just a night in that holding cell, and not seven years behind bars.

Not that you don't have reason to be angry with them regardless.

Not all cops are dicks. In fact, I don't think most cops are dicks at all. It's just the ones that are dicks that stand out and give the others a bad name. Saying all cops are bad is no better than saying all blacks are serial killers. But maybe it's just in my neck of the woods that the majority of cops are good people.

Stupid move on your end. Power is everything. And you were on the wrong side of the scales.

One of my favourite sayings: "Might does not make right, but it does make the rules." Helps avoid such situations.

Or in other words: unless you have the power to force your will on others, you have no choice but to endure everything thrown at you; oppression, force, insults, whatever. Rights, freedoms and all that are an illusion. Those with more power will always control those who cannot fight against them.

And no matter how disgusted someone might be by such actions (like Coffeeboonen up there), it won't change anything. Appealing to rights and the legal system is weak. Either be wise enough to do what you are commanded by those who hold utter sway over you or work towards gaining enough power to hold sway over them. Complaining has never gotten anyone anywhere.

Oh, and I don't mean this in any offensive way either. Just stating it bluntly, heh.

Say, I run into a group of 5 thugs in the street who throw insults at me or whatnot.
I'll obviously pass it by silently. That's the wiser choice.
But if it were only one, I'd beat him into the ground.

It's all about odds. If you can't win, don't fight (be it physically or verbally). It isn't worth it.

In Brazil we have some corrupt officers, not just a full police force made of power abusers.

I understand the disdain some of you have for the police, but you have to realize that you're all grossly generalizing here. Of course you'll get some dick cops within every police force...uh, service. If some police assifer is having a particularly bad day and decides to pull you over for doing 5 over the speed limit, tough shit. We gotta remember, these kinds of people were most likely the kinds we shoved in lockers when we were in high school, and now they wanna get back at society.

But there are many cops who really are trying to make the world a safer, more orderly place. What may seem like petty dickery to you may, to them, just be doing their job. You all know the laws. Either live with them or find ways around them so that you won't get caught. Surely none of you are so hateful of the police that you actually condone events like the Oakland police shooting back in March? You know, the one where five officers got gunned down by a bunch of low-life crackheads? Trying to cleanse the world of these kinds of criminal...now that's police service at its finest.

I have a cousin who was robbed by a cop in Mexico. In Costa Rica, the cops laugh at you if you report a robbery. We have a significant percentage of corrupt cops, but they really are less of a joke than they are in most of the world.
