      Anemia

If there is another Anemia topic i am sorry lol

But anyways, ive been anemic for about 7 years now (found out last year in August i was close to death). Im still not coping well and i have been on iron pills since discovered.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how i could recover better, or if anyone is/was a sufferer themselves and could give me some help on what i could try to do to get better.

Its kinda getting me down now, giving me stress and bad dreams...any help would be helpful if possible ^_^

Well I myself have never had anemia but one of my x girlfriends used to have anemia (who was also a vegetarian) and my current girlfriend recently got put on iron pills for suspected anemia but it seems she's all good now. My advice would just try eat 'normally', iron is also found in plants to, beans, so maybe some beef and beans with cheese on top and some nacho chips makes a good meal xD

You could also possibly invest in some 'meal replacement' shakes, you can get a powder that u mix about two scoops with 250mls water and it makes a shake that has lots of nutrients in it, I beleive you can also get ones high in iron.

Just try sneak as much red meat and beans into your diet without being too excessive, I mean don't go over board, as far as I know its healthy to be about 2/3rds vegetarian.

I'm sorry I can't be much help, but may I ask what kind of advice you are expecting to get back?

Good luck, and happy dreaming, Chris.

Yeah, eat healthy in general. Cut down on junk food of all sorts. You should probably see your doc again if all of that + iron pills isn't helping.

      Thanks to you both ^_^

And dreamducky...im kinda desperate here for any help possible. The food lists you gave me and mixes helped alot, i will have to try them.

I was just wondering, since im not recovering well and all, if im doing anything wrong or not eating what i should be (not vegetarian). Or even what causes other people have had or seen to some anemia so it gives me some idea as to what might be causing it.

Ive never had a good diet, i know nothing about food, so anything helps ^_^

      Thanks again

Well, I know anemia can be genetic, I'm anemic, and so is my mother [my doctor thinks it was genetic anyways].

I usually am okay, but I think it's because I tend to eat lots of things high in iron and take iron pills when I know I won't have time to indulge on lots of iron-filled things.

I tend to eat lots of beans and spinach, umm... when I get my steak it's typically medium [don't know if that is any help at all, but blood does carry iron even in animals so ], I know all but the steak is 100% helpful. Typically I avoid junk foods, no soda, no greasy foods, maybe some chips now and then along with some chocolate and sugary things.

But I do say this much, I eat a lot, like, the way you'd assume the starving'd eat. So maybe how much you eat could be important as what you eat... Sorry if it's no help.

was just looking around on in and found some interesting things here.

      most interestingly:

The twenty richest sources of iron in descending order: Canned clams; Fortified dry cereals; Cooked oysters; Organ meats (liver, giblets); *Fortified instant cooked cereals; Soybeans, mature, cooked; Pumpkin and squash seed kernels, roasted; White beans; Blackstrap molasses, 1 Tbsp; Lentils, cooked; Spinach, cooked from fresh; Beef (chuck); Kidney beans; Sardines; Beef(rib); Chickpeas; Duck, meat only; Lamb shoulder; Prune juice.

Certain foods have been found to interfere with iron absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, and these foods should be avoided in persons with established iron deficiency. They include tea, coffee, wheat bran, rhubarb, chocolate, chewing gum, red wine, and dairy products.
      hope this helps

I'm one of the rare males thats had anemia... It's pretty much impossible these days not to but make sure there's vitamin c in your diet to absorb the iron. By the way.. have you ever had cravings for ice or dirt or clay? I don't understand the ice at all but I remember reading how extreme cases can crave these things; I think I might have had a hankering for ice at one time or another.

You might also want to take ginseng and vitamin b to help you concentrate and give you energy.. anemia can be tough I know! Best of luck.
