      diphenhydramine hydrochloride

Does anyone know if Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, aka Benadryl, or sleep aid, interrupt your REM cycles at all?

All I know is that after I took two (children's chewables that is lol) benadryl's I induced my first FILD. So I don't know what if it does or not. But last night I tried melatonin and it didn't seem to do anything. Didn't improve my recall or antyhing. Well maybe it made me fall asleep faster but that's it.

I was having allergy problems, so I took one. They can be used as a sleep aid too apparently. Seems like the benadryl might have decreased my dream recall, but not sure. Sometimes my recall just varies. I think I'm gonna give melatonin a shot, and see what happens. So far, it seems I've been having trouble sleeping since trying to lucid. I have been waking up almost after every dream though. Seems as though I'm having a dry spell or something. I haven't had a lucid since I started earlier this month.

Yes, it promotes deep sleep so you will have less REM. However I've remember vivid dreams with 25mg, so it's possible to lucid dream.

ive taken about 5 or 6 of those before and i felt like i was dreaming while concious

but from what I recall, the dreams were more....random, also benadryl makes me hallucinate a little, even a 25mg dose, or a 125mg, either dose makes me feel a bit like im stoned/sleepy or tripping
I would rather die on my feet then to live on my knees.

I've had a lot of experience with diphenhydramine, and personally I don't suggest you begin taking it. The drug has a powerful effect on the mind if you take more then the recomended dosage (even just 4-5 pills). At higher doses it causes delerium. Even when you take the recomended dosage (2 pills), there will be some psychoactive effects. This medication can aid with dream recall and lucid dreaming, but I don't recomend it because, for one, you don't want to become dependent on it to get to sleep or to have lucid dreams (in my opinion diphenhydramine has a high risk of dependency). It could also have the opposite effect on your dreaming, and make it much harder to remember your dreams, not to mention it can make it very difficult to get up in the morning (which is one side effect I always noticed).

Its nasty stuff in my opinion. Some sleep aids you should try instead, which work very well for me (not to mention they don't have many side effects), are herbal remedies such as Valerian Root or Kava Kava Root. Both of these have limited side effects, work splendidly as sleep aids, and can help a lot with dream recall. If its really difficult for you to get to sleep I recomend you begin taking both a couple hours before bed.

"We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about."

"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."
