      Daydreaming

      Hey Guys.

There might have already been a thread about this, and it is quite sad..

I don't think I know how to daydream... Would anybody be able to show me how?? I have some classes where I finish everything within 5 minutes, and I have an hour and a half to spare.

      Any Tips?

daydreaming is just a term for thinking things that are irrelevant to what you're doing. So just don't worry about what it is you are doing or what you need to do or how to pass the time just sit there and stare out the window. You can daydream about daydreaming or about lucid dreaming. All it is is thinking. there is no special technique. Think about what you plan to do in the distant future. Or think about the past. Think about someone you find attractive. It isn't vivid. I mean if you close your eyes you might start seeing semi-vivid images or hearing sounds or you might drift off, but daydreaming itself is nothing like dreaming.

Alright. Thanks JesterKK. I guess I understand now. Except I tried to find ways to do it, and I haven't felt sounds or seeing images. The closest I have gotten is imagining myself in a BMW, and I saw the stitching of the shift knob, and my hand on it downshifting into 2nd gear. It lasted like 2 seconds. Is that what you call a "day dream"?

      Thanks for the help anyways,

Daydreaming is nothing more but your mind wandering off, I do it alot, especially in class when I have to pay attention.

yeah that is a daydream, but you don't have to be hallucinating for it to be a daydream. it really is just irrelevant thoughts. if you want to know how to induce waking hallucinations, well I don't know how to do that. But that would be WILD probably rather than a daydream. While I was in bed a couple of nights ago with my eyes closed I was imagining playing soccer and my legs moved reflexively to kick the imaginary ball. I was aware that I was just imagining things and that I was awake. That is the most vivid my daydreams can get. Otherwise I'd be asleep and dreaming. And it's important to note that in daydreaming the imagery isn't seen with your eyes like it is in a dreamstate. There is an awareness that it is created by the mind and in your minds eye.

This topic always always confuses me, because my daydreams are as vivid as regular dreams, but they're "inside" as if seen, heard, felt etc by a secondary, "inside me", completely apart from reality.

So because I really see things in my mind's eye, it's hallucination? Or is that term reserved for an inability to tell self generated internal material from external?

Not sure if this is the same thing, but I can't visualize anything and actually "see" it if you will. But I can do a hell of a job imagining how something looks to perfect epic detail. Just can never make an actual image of it. You seem to have some imagination there ;]

I have an extremly wild imagination, and I could imagine how something looks with great detail as well. I can't vizualize something and actually see it, only maybe a few glimpses. Maybe I am having daydreams and not realizing it completely.

I've always had a wild imagination, and I daydream all the freagin time... but my daydreams are mostly thoughts or stories that I "hear" but don't see.
My dreams are wildly vivid and I've always been disappointed that I can't visualize my thoughts when I'm awake.

So maybe this thread is more about visualization than actual day dreaming?

I can visualize a circle... I can see the shadow of a tree in the distance if I REALLY try. But that's about as far as it gets with me. I can visualize distant shadows of most things, but there's no detail (or, if there is, it's VERY fleeting and most annoying lol)

When I go to sleep, I could dream of a friend I had when I was 5 and see them with perfect clarity.

Sometimes I want to draw but I can't from memory. I have to look at something and copy it and then I'm limited by sheer lack of skill lol

There is just a thin line that differentiates hallucination with daydreaming. Hallucinations are just about visualising something being in the same state as you were and daydreaming is anything that your mind wants you to visualise, basically both of them are closely related to the thoughts. In many cases, both of them are quite difficult to differentiate from each other. This is because there is no specific definition that could be define these things.

      Hello friends

A daydream is a visionary fantasy experienced while awake, especially one of happy, pleasant thoughts, hopes or ambitions.[1] There are so many different types of daydreams that there is still no consensus definition amongst psychologists.[1] While daydreams may include fantasies about future scenarios or plans, reminiscences about past experiences, or vivid dream-like images, they are often connected with some type of emotion.
While daydreaming has long been derided as a lazy, non-productive pastime, daydreaming can be constructive in some contexts. There are numerous examples of people in creative or artistic careers, such as composers, novelists and filmmakers, developing new ideas through daydreaming. Similarly, research scientists, mathematicians and physicists have developed new ideas by daydreaming about their subject areas.

      Thanks
