      Second Wind

So being a late nighter and partier sometimes me and my buddy would always talk about this "second wind." Staying up so late I get to this point where I am so dead tired about to pass out but if I keep it together and stay up I suddenly feel way more awake then I was before and more energetic.

Does anyone know why this happens? really interested in it.

I dont know what this is or why it happens but me being an athlete i kind of do the same thing with exercises. I call it the point of no return, and very easy when running, the first like 2-3 miles are the hardest and i am like this is horrible.. but then after i hit the PONR i have no problem and can easy run all day haha. Adrenaline maybe?

Hmmm... tapping into an alternate source of energy? Fat or something?

I've had this happen to me, in a way. I've stayed up past 2 doing homework with the help of caffeine and woken up with a sort of wired energy. You know you're tired but your mind keeps going really fast. Kind of enjoyable, until the exhaustion catches up to you.
You may say I'm a dreamer.

As a rower, I can confirm that this happens. A crew race is a grueling experience, especially in the middle when lactate is burning through your legs and you feel like your heart is going to explode. But when you hit a certain point called the sprint, it feels like all the exhaustion drops away and a surge of endorphins enters the body and you count down the final 25 strokes or something. It leaves me less tired than when I do the same thing in practice actually. Don't know if it helps at all, but fun to know I guess
Once more into the breach dear friends, once more! And fear not its darkness, for it is only a figment of my imagination!
