Thread: Google Voice and Gmail

Google is quite awesome. Last night was the first time I called somebody with my Google phone number. The quality was near perfect, even when Calling someone that was on a cell phone. I just think that Google could've organized it a little better.

You would think that you should be able to make and receive calls from with your Google number while logged into the Google Voice page. However, that isn't the case. You can call from the Google Voice page, but if you do, it sends the call to your phone or to your Gmail, then connects you to the number you are caling. But when it comes to receiving calls, you can't do that at all on the Google Voice page.

Now when you are signed into the Gmail page, you can do both. You can call somebody from the Gmail page, without needing to route the call to another page or a physical phone. Plus, if someone dials your Google number, it will ring and you can answer it right there from the Gmail page.

Am I the only one that thinks this could've been organized better? Shouldn't you be able to make and recieve calls from the Google Voice page without routing the call to the Gmail page or a physical phone?

EDIT: I also think that there should be an addon or an extension (depending on your browser) that allows you to receive calls. There is a Google Voice extension that lets you send and receive texts, and it lets you make calls (after routing to the Gmail page) but you still can't receive calls unless you are logged into the Gmail page.

You can send and receive text messages on both the Gmail and the Google Voice pages, so would it not be less confusing to just do away with the Google Voice page and do everything, be it texting or making and receiving calls, from the Gmail page?
