      Web Design/Development vs Web Applications Development

      I'm wondering what's the difference between Web Development (HTML, CSS, PHP/SQL, JavaScript) and this thing called Web Application Development (that I just heard of).

      The reason is that I am majoring in Web Development and am thinking about transferring to a University (possibly SDSU), and in their Computer Science field I found this program that just launched which is the Web Applications thing. What exactly is it?

      Does anyone in Southern California know of any good (not ITT Tech, DeVry, etc) colleges that have good Computer Science/IT programs?

      Well web development is basically just designing web pages, like this. You'd be writing a lot of what you said, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, SQL and what not, and you'd be designing normal webpages and such.

      Web application development would be like making things similar Google Docs.

      Not sure with the colleges though, sorry bud.

      Web Design/Development vs Web Applications Development

      Web Design has to do primarily with the look and feel of web pages, its more graphic design based.
      Web Development has to do with the logistics of making those pages.
      Web application development has to do with making applications that run behind or underneath web pages (and many times also the user interfaces as well.) C#.net, PERL, CGI or any other server side languages tend to fall under this.

      Those titles are not exclusive though, and I would think Web Development would be inclusive of the others.
