I've been dicking around with itunes for almost 5 hours now, so I'm finally asking for help. Here's my situation. I've got music in all sorts of different locations on one drive (osx) and I need to get it all organized into the itunes music folder, only here's the hitch, I only want the files that are currently in my library to get moved, so I can delete the stragglers (there are a lot of them) 70% of 11 gigs of songs are unorganized, so I can't do it manually, only through my itunes library. I wanted to simply use the consolidate library command, but I just don't have enough space to copy my entire library. Is there any way to consolidate library without copying? If someone can help me, I will name my first born after them.

If ya cant copy 'em all, I'd guess your only way is to locate each one and manually move it

Don't move them from Itunes. Just move them to where you want them and then just go through all the songs double clicking them so that they start playing in iTunes and iTunes registers them. This takes way less time than going through the whole locating process with iTUnes... even so you've got a big job on your hands

I don't get what you wanna do, though. You wanna move your itunes music folder to somewhere else? Just right click and press "move here." So what do you want to do, I'm confused?

Ok, I've got one big folder full of music on my desktop, but only some of the songs in it I actually want. these are in my itunes library. When I deleted the ones I didn't want, they stayed on my computer, but left my library. But every song in that folder has got a namelike AJFD.mp3 with no rhyme nor reason. I want iTunes to take all the files of the songs in my library, and organize ane MOVE them into my itunes music folder. Too much to ask? I think so.

I wouldn't use iTunes for this, but whatever

What I would do is flush out my iTunes library (just the database, don't delete the songs). In iTunes check the "Copy music to my library" or something button (I've long since deleted iTunes, that piece of crap, so I'm working off the top of my head) and then specify the folder for your music database to be. Also, check the "Keep my iTunes folder organized" option. Copy all of the songs you want that are in your folders into iTunes, and then go through it one by one deleting what you don't want. Now if you look at the music folder you gave to iTunes, you should have a nice clean organized music collection, which is sorted by artist and then by album. Hope this helped.
