Okay, well iTunes was working about 2 days ago but all of a sudden this message pops up 'iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly.'
My sound works, I can listen to internet audio (youtube etc.) But, when I go to my control panel and click sound and audio devices it says there is none... I have restarted my computer about 4 times but still no luck. Its a laptop by the way. Does anyone have any ideas why/how to fix it?

Thanks,
Ellie

Okay, this might get a little complicated if you're a novice computer user, but just stick with me, and if you get confused, say so.

Go to Control Panel, click System (If there's no button for System, you're in category view, so you'll have to click "Performance and Maintainance", then click "System")

Next, click the "Hardware" tab.
There should now be a button saying "Device Manager", click it.

First, check to see if there's anything that says "Unknown Device" or something similar under any of the categories.
If there is, right click it and select "Update Driver". If Windows asks you if it can connect to the internet, say yes.

If nothing said "Unknown Device" or anything of that nature, then check the category "Sound, Video and Game Controllers". Right click each entry and select Update Driver.

Now check to see if that worked--if not, go back to the Device Manager, right click all of the devices under "Sound Video and Game Controllers", but this time click "uninstall". Then restart the computer and test it again to see if it works.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I've gotten up to the bit where I've updated all of the drivers under the sound, video and game category and it still isn't working. So I went back to the device manager but I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say to click uninstall... I just have update driver, scan for hardware changes and properties.

Thanks

Huh, it should. Oh well, same thing, different method:
Right click, go to properties.
Click the "Driver" tab, click Uninstall, then restart your computer once you've uninstalled all of them.
This makes your computer reinstall all the drivers for the hardware, so it should work again, unless you have a hardware problem or something bizarre.

Yup I've uninstalled, reinstalled restarted etc. But this time, I still get error beeps, but now I can't turn up my volume? As in, my laptop it isn't a physical dial that you turn up, you press fn and F3/F4 to turn the volume up or down. Recently I installed a new anti virus but it worked fine after that, so I don't really think that's the issue

Thanks for trying Tsen

Anymore ideas?

Huh. I'm stymied. Did you try tech support? They suck and are a pain to listen to, but worst case scenario is you turn it in under warranty.

Thanks Yeah I might contact them, and if worst comes to worst it's still under warranty.

Just a quick update... I contacted the tech support and they ran me through a few confusing steps, then had to install a Microsoft update, then did a virus scan... restarted the computer and it works! Thanks heaps for the help
