So, sometimes my computer restarts just after Windows has loaded, sometimes it does this twice in a row.

Its very annoying.

Any idea how to prevent/fix this?

Thanks.

I have had the same problem a long time ago. I think it is wrong with some part inside the PC, but I'm not sure.

random restarts or crashes are usually due to power or heat problems

either your power supply is not big enough (can happen with high-end graphics cards sucking all the power from an old supply unit) and the CPU isn't getting enough power, so it restarts

or, it's an over-heating problem

should be quite easy to narrow down
in the first instance, try taking the case off

if that doesn't work, buy a PSU with a higher power output

Thanks guys.

My computer is not exactly high-end, but it could be the power supply because I bought it off an American a few years ago and I plug it in with an adapter.

I should probably get an English plug for it?!

The restarts are always right after booting up.

if it's always after booting, then it's almost certainly the power supply
don't try to bugger about with it
bite the bullet and buy a 500w one from maplin
shouldn't be more than £50 or so

In the system thing it says:

Intel®
Pentium® 4 CPU 1300MHz
1.30 GHz, 256 MB of RAM

ok don't laugh...

I think you may be getting errors and automatically restarting.

Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, and click "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery." Uncheck "Automatically restart." This should give you time to read your error message before your comp shuts down.

If "Automatically restart" is already unchecked, or if that doesn't work, then contact Tech Support and, if they don't help you, probably go with what Ynot said.

Sometimes my security features make you restart your computer for the updates to take place.
Could there be an option that does it automatically in the security system.?

You really shouldn't use a power adaptor for a computer!!

Good idea, I don't know the answer.

You're probably right. I shouldn't drink either

I will get a new power supply, promise.

Thanks, it is now unchecked so hopefully it will tell me what's wrong next time.

To be continued...

Now I changed that setting, when it throws a fit a blue screen with white writing comes up

It say blah blah blah blah blah

I think the relevant bit is:

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x000000 8E (0xC0000005, 0x804D9A69, 0xEFEBFB8C, 0x00000000)

Does that make any more sense to any of you than it does me?

I think the rest of the blurb was just a standard message, but I could type it out for you.

No, most of these error codes won't get us very ver. You're better off telling the error code at the bottom, it's fully capitalised and usually has underscores (think along the lines of IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_TO or something like that). It's usually at the bottom, near the end of all the useless text. The rest of the standard message we don't need.

Also, I personally don't think there's anything wrong with your power supply. I think your Windows installation is just fucked up bigtime.

Could very well be the Windows installation as it was a dodgy Russian copy.

uh did just write that?

I dreamed it all.

I'll look for the other error code...

EDIT: In fact, it seems that booting up my PC with my USB stick in it was the cause of the problem...I don't know why.

The blue screen of death... a lot of people seem to be complaining about that lately (myself included).

My problem was that I had a corrupted file stuck in my system files somewhere... perhaps your USB stick has corrupted files? I'm not an expert on USB flash drives so I don't know if that's possible.
