Out of curiosity, how many people here have experience with electronic engineering (i.e. circuit design)? How many people are there with analog experience? Digital? Both?

I have just a little bit of electronic engineering knowledge. One of courses in colleges was about that, and we learned about switches, flip-flops, etc. The class project was to design an 8-bit alarm system, not on an actual circuit board, but on a computer software that simulated circuit boards. Also, we didn't design any sensors or anything, just the main system, where you could make your pin number, arm the system, disarm it, you had 3 tries to enter your password, a timer for you to leave the place before it went off (if one of the sensors sent a bit signal to the alarm system) etc. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I took that course though... hehe.

      How about you?

      little bit, but not much

made a circuit a while back to convert VGA to SCART to hook a PC direct to tele without all that S-video crap
(this was way before digital TV's)

I design circuits as a hobby. I've only been proficient at designing things since mid-December of last year. I am self-taught, so you can imagine I was a bit confused at times. Diodes and transistors were the worst, because the arrows point in the opposite direction of the direction current flows when they're forward-biased. I ran in circles over that for at least a month.

I usually just design small things in my spare time, and by small I mean small. Then again, I still have plenty to learn - I have yet to take a course over anything related to electronics (excluding a summer program I attended, because it taught what I already knew). Then again, I'm a freshman in high school, so I have plenty of time to learn. I mostly do small high-voltage generators, but I've had a look at other varieties of analog circuits, and I'm also getting into digital circuitry. It's nothing really fancy, but they should work. Sadly, I can count the number of things I've actually built on one hand. I only designed one of them, and I didn't even finish it. At least I've got time to learn...

I'll post one of my designs as soon as I get access to a scanner that recognizes my computer. It'll probably just be a few days at most.

Circuits are one of my many hobbies, I haven't done much except with microcontrollers.

I'm a computer engineer, so I've played around with that stuff. I ended up focusing more on software though, so I'm probably not the best designer out there .

I haven't really done anything with microcontrollers yet. Maybe I will over the summer. Is anyone interested in tesla coils?
