      Manualy deleting Uninstallable programs

Hi, I have a program that I want to uninstal which happens to be Nero 7 Essencials. I want to uninstal it because its taking up memory and I got a better program for burning (Roxio Creator 8 ). But everytime I try to uninstal this program, and error message comes up saying that the unistalation was interupted and will terminate. This happens every 3/4 of the way of uninstalling. So I'm thinking of manually going to the source files and deleting the folder, but a messages comes up saying that doing this will have damage to the way my computer operates and is not recommended. Is this realy true? I have already tryed running the instalation CD again to repair or reinstalation for it to get all the neccessary files for unintalation. What should I do?

Also in other problems, I have a pesky compaq registration window that keeps popping up every 30 minutes, that wont seem to go away. Even if I register or choose to register later, or tell it to dont remind me anymore. It keeps poping up! I cant find any file in my computer that I can delete to get rid of this problem. (HAAA! There is goes again!)

      Anyone have any advice?

I bet both of those problems can be resolved by googling. The kind of problem that can occur by you deleting crap from the Program Files directory is that if you have a registry entry that starts some system tray icon that lives in there, you'll get an error message every time you start your PC. It might be that you need to reinstall Nero before attempting to uninstall again. But yeah, google for those problems (especially the compaq registration) and I'm sure you'll find instructions on how to fix these.

Follow Replicon's advice, and in the meantime, don't fret about Nero consuming memory. As long as you're not running it, no memory is being used. Disk space on your hard drive is being used, but a single program doesn't take up enough to effect your hard drive's performance in any noticeable way.

I bet that Nero uses some residual services though, for instance drive emulation, drag-and-drop burning etc, and these will use up a small amount of memory. I've not used Nero for a long time, I use CD Burner XP Pro, but I know from my old PC that Nero did run one or a few services.

yeah I think it does too. On my computer it has "Nero Scout", dont know what the hell it does, but it wont even let me open it due to missing data.

I've done this a few times (mostly to move the programs to my other computer), it might depend on your OS as to whether or not it will hurt your computer. When I did it, it showed me a few messages like "this file is being shared by other programs and may cause system instability, continue deleting?" and i just click no, it seems to work fine. HOWEVER, i tried it once and my computer went black then showed a blue screen that said something like "your system has suffered a fatal error." it didn't but whatever you do, be careful
