using a restore disk from another laptop manufacturer... |
|
As some of you may know, My Windows partition corrupted, and I had to search for a new installation disk as I did not get one with my laptop. So I've finally got one, but it's a Windows XP SP2 Home Edition (The one I wanted) From Medion. Now my question is, As it installs the drivers run in Medion computers and laptops, Is there a chance that the drivers needed for my laptop (Compaq) Will not be installed through the Medion CD, thus truly fucking up my laptop? |

If you backup up the registry with the drivers and such that you had and then install a version of Windows with different (Medion) drivers then restore the backup you're going to have major problems. |
|
So if I do take the risk. And It fucks up, is there still the danger of my laptop not working, even with my Ubuntu installation disks? |

you can't physically damage anything, |

Well I tried it, It loaded up the drivers, And it was about to install Windows when it said it couldn't find my hard drive (Figures...) So I'm just going to have to buy a proper Windows installation disk from Compaq. Anybody know how much that would cost me? |

Not sure if this is what Ynot meant by boot disk, but the Ultimate Boot CD might be what you need. It's got a heck of a lot of tools on it as well. |
|
yeah, there's a few NTFS bootdisks around |

Well, to avoid all sorts of hassle, I just decided to send it back to the shop to get it fixed. Probably better than messing with it and voiding my warranty |
