Thread: IPhone is it worth it?

I'm not a betting man, so I won't put money on it
but I suspect the iPhone will be a flop outside of the US due to the single carrier restrictions.

There are plenty of fancy phones out there that are unlocked. iPhone is more of a marketing gimmick than anything special.

I'd wait until 2nd or 3rd generation at this point.

Yeah.

I'm in America and I have yet to see one in person.. hmm.. but yeah, I hear it has a lot of problems.

And the firmware battles--It's like the PSP all over again. You can't put 3rd party apps on it or use it with other carriers, and if you unlock it so you can, the firmware update kills your iPhone, and if you unbrick it you have to downgrade the firmware so it still works...

Yeah I have heard to wait for the 2nd generation. I am not getting one because they are on o2 only

Where have all the updates gone though? Has Maddox finally run out of things to bitch about? Is it possible that he can run out of things to bitch about? When will the next update be? Will Ash defeat the Elite 4 and become the greatest pokémon trainer in the world?

About the iPhone, I wouldn't get it. Although it looks a pretty decent phone, it's ridiculously expensive and I reckon you could get a better phone than that from a different company.

I also haven't seen the iPhone yet, but I have seen the new touch iPod, which is pretty nice. The clickwheel is brilliant though, I'm not switching (also, don't have anywhere near enough money)

Well I actually have one. It's a very nice device. There are faults, but it's extremely stable and well developed for a 1.0 device. I feel like no one but Apple could have accomplished that.

But I feel like a lot of people are just whining. First they complained about lack of 3rd party apps, stuck with AT&T, no GPS, 3G, etc. After those problems were addressed, people stop complaining for a while and start to take things for granted, and when the firmware is released and took it away, it's back to complaining again. It's just an endless cycle. It's impossible to satisfy everyone everytime and if you read too much into the criticisim it just makes you think the product is crap.

But I've had the phone for a few months now, and to say the truth I still appreciate it everyday. It makes my life a lot easier. Integrates a iPod and a phone so I have pocket space. I don't really care for Edge but it gets the job done (though I'm on a school campus and there's WiFi everywhere anyway). Even so I'm not that crazy about surfing on a tiny screen, and the Edge version of YouTube is pretty cool.

But all in all, I still stand by my last post. If you haven't gotten it by now and still want one. I'd wait for the 2nd generation. It's not that far off, and they're likely to fix a lot of the hardware problems that the early adopters complained about.
