paste these 2 lines into the console

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop false

Code:

/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root

Then press Ctrl+C

To revert back, type

Code:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop true && nautilus

Then press Ctrl+C

haven't worked out how to get the desktop icons over the top yet, but working on it
