      Photoshop Questions

Q 1: I'm currently working with Photoshop CS, and I'm having trouble with the brush shape dynamics.

Every time I want to apply pen pressure, pen tilt or stylus wheel, a little exclamation mark inside a triangle appears (like this: ) beside the drop down menu and the option wont work. (meaning there is no simulated pen pressure when there should be.)

This is EXTREMELY frustrating and any explanation and/or help would be very much appreciated.

      Q 2:
I would like to upgrade to a newer version of photoshop, but I'm not sure which one to choose. I think I would be happy with CS2, but I wanted another opinion. Is it worth it to get CS3? What are the benefits of CS3 vs. CS2, if any?

      Thanks.

I believe that that is a function that is specific to those special pen hardware devices. I don't know what they're called. I don't see how else they could measure pressure, all trackpads are heat sensitive as are touchscreens.

No, it can be used with a tablet, but it should also work without one. I mean, I don't have a tablet and this option used to work for me. Its just supposed to simulate pressure at the ends of the lines.

      Thanks anyway.

If you want to simulate pen pressure, just change it to fade. You can adjust the length by changing the number in the box next to it (in this example, the number is 50).

I believe this is what you're looking for no?

      Good luck

Not exactly. Fade doesn't give quite the same effect as pen pressure. Also, even if it did, I would still want to find out WHY these three options are not working when they should be.

But thanks anyways, I appreciate the response.

I found the problem. You do have to have a tablet for the options to show up, but you don't necessarily have to be using the tablet for them to work. For example: you can stroke a path with the pen pressure option, as long as you have your tablet plugged in.
