      Nooooo!!!

Well today I got attacked by a Trojan. In the short time I had it before removing it, my entire Music Library was deleted without me noticing until now when trying to update my iPod.

I attempted a System Restore, but got nothing.

I already think I know the answer to this question, and I'm actually ashamed of myself for asking, but I'm trying to cling onto some hope here, is there anyway I can get my collection back?

Depends on how intensely you've manipulated files on your hard drive since it happened.
You can try Uneraser, but, aye, the amount recoverable is all up to chance.

      ouch, sorry to hear that

it's probably easier to p2p them back, to be honest
torrent whole albums, and frostwire individual songs

Yes, assuming that they are still on your iPod.

Go to Apple's website and find one of those programs that can import your music back from your iPod to iTunes. A few of the programs that they have on their site have Windows counterparts listed on the developer's site.

Not with iTunes, there are third party programs that will do it.

You mean you can't do that out-of-the-box? I can vaguely comprehend why they don't like their customers replacing batteries (although I do not agree with them), but not letting you by default move songs from iPod -> iTunes? Stupid if you ask me.

Thank God I don't buy Apple.

It is really dumb. Actually I can't think of any reason why they would choose to make their ipods like that.

Because then stealing songs would be too easy?

If everyone could download Songs iPod -> PC then you could get someone's whole library without paying for it. I'd say it is for the Artist's protection.

      not stealing

stealing would be running off with this person's iPod

      funny thing is,
it's actually easier to steal an iPod than copy the songs off

They do that because iPods are populated through iTunes. Everything that's on your iPod had to have been on your iTunes collection.

FYI: Apple will replace a bad battery for you if it's been less than 2 years.

I didn't know that. Oh wait, I did. I was refering to the customer-replaceable battery, or lack thereof.

It's probably to avoid the customer breaking the harddisk. The iPod is very delicate afterall.

Really? I've dropped mine in water, on the ground, (pavement) shut it in a door.... Yeah I don't really take good care of it. It still works though.

It's so people keep buying new iPod's. Why would someone buy another if their still worked, eh?

The old iPods that is. The newer ones can take more, since they're not disk operated.

Oh right. The one I was talking about is a v2 nano, which can take a lot of shit. My old 2nd or 3rd gen ipod gets very hot and makes an easily audible noise when accessing files.

Wait, so the original problem is that you have the music on your iPod player but lost the same music collection on your PC?

I use a simple 1GB flash player. They act like flash drives that can play music.
Aren't iPods the same? Or do you have to use this iTunes (which I've never seen or used) to manipulate music on it? Because if that's the case...why are they so popular?
No one likes products that limit the owner's freedom of use, right?

all ipods apart from the ipod touch can act as a mass storage device
(ie. act just like a removable hard disk)
so you can copy anything on and off the thing, no problems

you should be able to recover all your songs by plugging in your ipod, assigning it a drive letter, and just copying the contents over to your local hard drive.

The problem with using ipods as mass storage devices is, even though you can use an ipod as a normal removable hard disk, the ipod software music player cannot play files unless they are input into it's index (this means using itunes)

I believe there's a custom linux distro for the ipod that's designed to remove all these problems, including auto indexing of music files
but I've never owned an ipod, so I'm only going on what I've heard

as a side note, if you format your ipod on a mac, you can use it as a custom boot disk

      Ponder that for a second....

Oh, and lmao @ Ynot... Imagine fooling a friend with that... they'd never suspect the Ipod.

I'm glad I've always bought Creative and Microsoft software and hardware, when it comes to audio D:
