      I need help with ubuntu

I know I've been asking questions a lot on here, and I'm sorry if I'm annoying people ,but once again, I need help.

You see, I'm having trouble getting the ubuntu ISO image to a disk, and I was wondering what I did wrong. The software I'm currently using is infarecorder, and I can't figure out why It won't write to the disk when I use it.

      https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bu...1be66c6553babf
is the link I used to help me, but I did the told steps, and It wouldn't work.

I wanted to install Linux on some of my old compaqs, one for personal/family use, and one to give to my niece.

I looked at the program and for some reason it says "unsupported media" could that mean something?

Can anyone help, because what I'm wanting to do with ubuntu is very important to me?

when you say it won't work, what exactly do you mean?

      does the burning fail?
if so, make sure it's a blank CD and not scratched
use a different blank CD to be sure

make sure the ISO downloaded properly
(file size should be just under 700mb)
      (\_ _/)
      (='.'=)
      (")_(")

It just won't burn to the disk... I can't get it to do that for nothing...

      well, as I said
check the file size of the ISO, make sure it's correct and the download didn't cut out half way through

      and use a different CD
it's possible the CD you're trying to use is either not blank, or is scratched

Good luck--sounds like it's the actual CD you're using. Either you clicked through the 'burn to DVD media' dialogue while using a CD, not a DVD, or the disk you're trying to burn to is not blank.

I spent all day wednesday trying to get ubuntu on my OS-less laptop with no luck. It'll start installation, but reads the system files as corrupt, despite the disks (I've burned 3-4) running fine on my PC. I'm thinking the laptop's DVD drive is the problem--it's totally random when it will rev up and actually read a disk at start-up, so that I often have to restart several times and/or stall by going in and out of BIOS settings to get the machine to boot from that drive. I'm thinking it's not reading consistently during installation either.

With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you.
